  1. I just watched the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series A&W 300 stock car race from Vernon, BC on TSN2.Lo and behold, they used a custom-coloured, A&W-stickered-up Smart car as the official race Pace Car !!!At last, the recognition of high performance that we've all known our cars deserve.
  2. I washed my car for the first time in about 9 weeks, in preparation for tomorrow's Cruzin' @ the Plunkett estate in London, Ontario. How's that for positive thinking, weatherman !!!
  3. General Motors will let 2011 Corvette buyers help build their own engines By Dee-Ann Durbin, The Associated Press DETROIT - Corvette owners could soon be revving up an engine they built with their own hands. General Motors Co. said Monday that buyers who order a 2011 Corvette Z06 or ZR1 can help assemble their cars' high-performance LS7 and LS9 engines. The automaker believes the program is the first of its kind in the industry. The engines will be built at GM's Performance Build Centre in Wixom, Mich., where GM assembles all of its high-performance engines by hand. The facility can assemble up to 15,000 engines per year, GM spokesman Tom Read said. Read said it will take buyers about six hours to assemble, adjust and clean their engines with the parts provided. A skilled technician will supervise. The 2011 Corvettes are just going into production and will go on sale soon. Read said the company expects to have customers building their own engines as soon as next month. GM sold 13,934 Corvettes last year, according to AutoData Corp. GM suggests dealers charge US$5,800 for the engine-building program, which doesn't include air transportation but does include one night of lodging. But that's just a fraction of the cost of a Corvette Z06, which starts at around $75,000, or a ZR1, which is more than $100,000. The engine-building program joins a list of special options available exclusively to Corvette owners. ZR1 buyers can attend free Corvette driving courses in Arizona or Nevada, for example. For a fee, Corvette buyers can also have their sports cars delivered to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., or watch their Corvettes be built at the Bowling Green assembly plant. Read said the program shows the lengths Chevrolet will go to for its customers. The program could also help build positive buzz for the company, which is planning an initial public offering as early as October. The U.S. Treasury Department has owned 61 per cent of the automaker after a brief stay in bankruptcy protection last year.

  5. WHAT!! NO SMART CAR??
  6. Mileage? (Kilometre-age?)Any warranty?
  7. Where are you located? Can you list model, options and colours (interior and exterior)?Any pictures would also help, along with an asking price.
  8. I'll take them (4 rims + etc, and 2 tires).I'll PM you right now.Bill (in London, Ont)
  9. "75 MPG" Got this plate in order to answer everybody's first question, as they approach the car..... and it works! ⬅(See plate in my avatar picture. I can't seem to find original photo on this computer.)
  10. I guess mine isn't broken after all. I thought that button activated the ejector seat, al a James Bond's AM DB5. Somebody first told me that you pushed it to jump to light speed, but I didn't believe him.
  11. Thanks. I look forward to next year. Meanwhile, regarding you upcoming milestone.... people like you make me mad! As a person gets older, they should start looking older. When are you going to start looking older? They say that 40 is the new 30. You seem to be proving them right. Happy Birthday to you!

  12. Lil' Toot by name, lil' toot by nature.
  13. A thick elastic band works well also.So does electrical tape, in a pinch.
  14. Copp's in Lambeth have them also, but only in black or white.I think they were $1.79 for a package of 4.I just bought their entire stock of black ones (4 pks... 3 x 4 for wheels + 1 pk of 4 for 'matching' backup.... in case I loose 1 or 2). I cut off about half the length, which seemed to work just right. They DO look good! Great little mod.... and cheap.
  15. I would take it to the local dealer you plan to use for any warranty and/or regular service work. You'll get to know them and they'll get to know both you and your car. Form some kind of a relationship with the people in the service department. It'll help you down the road.William wrote "I would personally take it anywhere but to the London M-B."I disagree. I've had nothing but good service and good results from this dealer and their service department. I guess we've had different experiences. It will be fairly expensive in the long term to service the car at an MB dealer, but some feel more comfortable with dealer service. You decide.Good luck. (One less Smart car in London. Oh well, we'll survive, some how, I guess)
  16. I will let you know. And I'll bring my extended warranty with me. By then, I should have a completely new, rebuilt car. 400 posts is nothing. I surpassed that just this morning. Piece o' cake. And now back to "Extended Warranty discussion" (don't want to hijack thread re my astounding posting prowess).
  17. I've had a steering wheel c/w shifters, a turbo, one rear axle bearing and a battery replaced under extended warranty, @ about 70K now.Last service showed weak A/C, so all new A/C lines have been approved and will be installed @ n/c as soon as the dealer gets them.I'm 9 months into my extended warranty and very glad I got it. Planning a long trip west this summer or fall. Probably spend all money saved from extended warranty at Flying Tiger (wheels, tires, other mods, etc.). :PWeee! My 400th post!! Not many by other standards, but I'll use any excuse to celebrate!
  18. My head aches and there's a little blood coming out of one of my ears. OMG... i think my brain exploded! :biglaugh:Seriously I'm due for belts at my next service. I'll see if MB London has this Devil tool and, more importantly, if they use it.
  19. Put on the summer rubber/original alloys (amazing how sore and crippled I've become since doing it this afternoon).William.... how much for your 451 cup holder?? Did you source it at MB London??
  20. MightyMouseTech.........How much do you charge for the whole package??? (minus the optional peanut butter package) Might be worth the trip from London.
  21. I believe it's jealous of your new white Smart car. Just show it some love and understanding, and remind it that first loves are the best loves. That should make it feel much better, IMHO.
  22. Yes, Smart142 does do his own wrenching. He also works on cars for others, is quite knowledgeable, very good and reasonably priced. With his ad behind me , I have to say that the extended warranty was not available when he passed the 80K/4 year deadline, so he might have been of a different mind had the opportunity presented itself (BTW - we rib each other on this topic all the time). Plus many folks don't have $1600 cash to leave sitting in a bank account, earning next to nothing.Just my 2¢ worth.
  23. The battery might take a charge deeper from a charger than the car's alternator can do it, if the battery is marginal.Don't disconnect the battery with the car running. You'll end up posting inquiries here about electrical problems you'll be having forever.
