smartnhappy replied to smartspecialist's topic in Introduce Yourself
Welcome to the Smart world.Look forward to a big get-together soon. How about an invitational wine and cheese soiree at the dealrship?? :drool3:Just kidding, but that would bring everybody out of the woodwork.Seriously, good luck in the new position. You've got lots of reference people to call on. -
Glad to see you !! Enjoy the info exchange, ideas, friendship, lunicy, humor and bad spelling throughout the club site. Dive in with both feet - the water's fine. Look forward to pix and description of all your mods. Cheers.

Just had my first A service on Jan 18 .....cost was $114.96 + taxes.... total was $132.20 Took about 3 hours, plus they flashed the system to improve A/C and replaced the weatherstrip on driver's door and replaced tach (it went silly-buggers the instant I scheduled the A service). On the other hand, on Monday I took my 96 Tahoe in for a fuel pump (wouildn't start - somewhat common on 95's thru 99's) Parts (fuel pump and a fuel filter) plus labour and taxes totalled $616.93 They also fixed the seat recliners and replaced the wiper module under a no-charge recall. Took about 5 hours total. Dealer suggested a major tuneup also, with plug wires. If you can believe it, they wanted $720. more for this !!!! I don't know if there is a great dealer out there (I've run into mostly liars and cheats everywhere and in all major makes), but the London MB dealer has done right by me so far.

Some shots from the recent Detroit Auto show. This car was one of a few standout concepts, in My humble opinion.

Actually tried to get to a gas well rig across a plowed field one day, but Lil' Toot couldn't quite make it. Plus I've tried to adapt my 8 foot snow plow blade to the Smart, with very limited success. Till I can resolve these issues, I'll need the old Tahoe (aka ...his monster truck...). But the good news, Kirk, is that I actually got Lil' Toot dirty last week and had to wash it. I guess there's hope for me to become normal yet.

I'll probably be at the Feb 01st meeting in London. I'll try to clean it for the event. Maybe see 'ya there. Phat red Passion, but with leather interior.

I stopped into the local MB dealer in London Ontario today for an oil top-off (ya!) and they had just rec'd 14 of the little gems, from green to black, and everything in between. Salesman said almost everything pre-sold. It made a nice picture to see all these little darlings lined up for dealer prep. There might be more members hear in a few days. Good luck to everyone picking up a new baby at the London MB maturnity ward, and welcome to the good life (of buying less fuel and getting looks everywhere you go).

Letter to the Editor in the London Free Press Sept 26th

I'm big and 6 foot, and I get a lot of looks when I get out of my Smart. I've had comments like " I didn't think you'd fit in there" or "can you get back in?". I had 2 SUV's and traded one on the Smart. Now if I can figure a way to mount my 8 foot snow plow blade on the Smart, I can get rid of the other. Seriously, I agreee that Smarts make the ideal second car (don't get mad Smartgirl). I look at mine as assistance in my mid-life crisis.....it's cheaper than either a Corvette or a mistress (better mileage too!). And when the day comes that my arthritis make it impossible to get into my car, I'll trade it on a cabriolet and just open the top and fall in. -
Just saw this couple on the 6 o'clock news in London Ontario. They seemed happy and are doing well. Check out www.threepointmotors.com/smart/smart_journey/ to follow their exploits. Did anyone catch the interview on channel 10 ? If you don't know, he's 84 and she's 74, and they're driving their new Smart from west coast to east coast and back, just for an "adventure". Phyllis says she always has to tell her husband to slow down!

FYI - I just completed an extensive report on a major car show I participated in, attached photo and BANG - NOTHING. Server must be 'down' again. Even at midnight Sunday night?? I don't think it's an issue with over-use. I give up. It's not the first time it's happened, and yes, i've posted previously. It's not worth my time (with a physical imparement) to enter all this, only to have my efforts disolve in front of me. I'll see you all later, when and if things get sorted out. Good luck.

Glad you made it. too. Smart142 seems to have a line on the 3D letters....mabe if you ask nicely he'll tell you (us) how to get them and how much. It was good to see you again in London yesterday. Hope you liked the wiz-bang tour put on for enthusiast42 on the way out of town. You should know that the story of his visit, with video of all our smiling Smarts, made the 6 o'clock news. Maybe glen recorded it. Good luck with your studies

I should also note that we had the air conditioning on high the entire trip. Do you think this makes much of a difference?

DId London to 50 km past Orillia and back, all on hwy's 401 and 400, except for Orillia and points past. Took 2 soft coolers, overnight bag and a 24. Also took my son (6'5" and 100+ kgm). I'm not as tall but I'm more gravitationally challenged. Stopped once up and once back to let him uncoil. Speeds avareged 110 to 120 kpm. Ride was smooth and uneventful. Very little buffetting from bigrigs. Used 29.53 litres(~6.5 imp. gal) to go 707.5 km (~436 miles) = 4.2 litres per 100 km (~67.1 mpg). Probably good mileage considering car has less than 2,000 km on the clock to date, and is still 'new', plus the load and the speed. Everyone think mileage will improve?? Best guess as to when?? I spotted 5 Smarts on route (3 on hwt 400, 1 in Barrie area and 1 in Orillia). Note.....a little spray with PAM cooking spray and ALL bugs just hosed off (windshield was another story).
