Block Heater details, at last....
Acier replied to MikeT's topic in Operation and Maintenance: 450 Model, 2005-2006, diesel
The add-on block heater for the 2005 is not the same as the one used on the 2006. It`s an element that is hold to the motor by a metal strap. -
Winter Wipers
Acier replied to johnny99's topic in Operation and Maintenance: 450 Model, 2005-2006, diesel
Yup! And 42 000km later they are still in good condition (I use them a lot, driving thru MTL every day). I will probably have to replace them by th end of the winter. -
Sadly, it`s not 83 mph but 83 km/h... now, imagine a car doing 3 l/100km @ 83 mph!

On Club smart Qu?bec (see my sig for link), but sadly that is the best quality I could get. When I get better quality pictures (soon I hope), I will post them on both sites.

ZAP Introduces 3-Wheeled Electric City Car
Acier replied to Hornhonker's topic in In News & Entertainment
It`s a hook... like the one you can find on a marine jet fighter! It`s cheaper to build than regular breaks... I have a question, does it can go under water? With a few tubes of silicone... I bet it can dive well under water. -
Are you talking about the Sping limited edition? 200 will be available in Canada and only 5 allowed per dealer All the coup? will come with the sun roof Prices: Coup?: 23 300$ Cabrio: 25 100$

A little more info on the energy needed to extract oil from the oil sands. Source: www.thebulletin.org/article.php?art_ofn=mj05cavalloAlso, it takes a lot of energy to "dig" out the raw material either from mining or steam injection: Source: http://www.energy.gov.ab.ca/100.aspDon`t get me wrong I have nothing against oil sands. I am just trying to understand what can/could contribute to our poor results in total emited green house gases. If I find more explicit information, I will post it.
-
Correct me if I am wrong, but don`t we have to burn one barrel of oil to extract one from the oil sands (in Alberta)? So if it`s the case, it should be a big part of the pollution we make... how many millions barrels of oil do we ship to the US? From French link to the 100th million barrel of oil extracted last June, we extracted our 100th million barrel of oil.

Wow! Bravo Eddie! Tell us, what tire pressure did you use? Thanks,

That can explain the 4 rc cars...

Knowing that the service interval in Canada is 8 000 km and that the europeen one is 12 500 km (more than 50% more), I expect the motor to last at least 250 000km with frequent oil changes and maintenance. What worries me the most about the smart fortwo is long term rust proofing, electronics and clutch.

Your smart: pictured with another 'unusual' vehicle...
Acier replied to smartzuuk's topic in General Discussions
Here is a photo taken at the cottage of my fortwo next to a Suzuki Rhino The main differences are: The smart is wider, quieter, less poluting and has a top speed of 135 km/h. The Rhino is longer, 4 wheel drive, has a top speed of about 75 km/h and is not as fun as the smart to drive (the fortwo is a lot of fun to drive on lumber roads!) -
I bought the block heater (it also comes with a battery electric blanket) for 195$ from the dealer. I have yet to install it. It looks like a pretty straight foward installation. It connects to the oil cooler and it`s a 250w unit.

I am not sure that they sell to the public... At the Grand Prix Parade they were giving free samples. The nice thing about 1 litre format is that one container in a 20L tank give syou B5. Maybe you can find contact info on their web site www.rothsay.ca/montreal.html
-
20 litres is enough to drive more than 500 km... are service stations that apart? Maybe a smaller 1L or 4L container is enough? Worst case senario.. carry a 2L of vegetable oil (add to the tank when the motor is hot) or find biodiesel. I am not sure if they sell to the public, but Rotsay (Ste-Catherine, south shore of MTL) makes biodiesel out of animal left overs and they package their fuel in 1L containers (idem to the oil litres).

Any idea how many cats and dogs the SPCA kills every year? I say it`s not cruelty to "resuse" them if we absolutly have to kill them. From SPCA Website How many of those will die? How many are abandoned? How many aren`t sterilized? etc. etc. My 2 cents...

I own a Ford Explorer and a fortwo. On ice and in slush the smart fortwo is way superior to the explorer. In less than 15 cm of snow they are both good and in over 15cm of snow the Explorer is far superior to the fortwo. The only problem with the fortwo is when in deep snow (i.e. 20 cm +) there is always a risk that you rise the car on the snow (like a sledge). The under carriage is all covered by platic pannels and when there is enough snow under the car it will lift the car killing the propulsion.

Rammstein use to drive an extra 50 km to get the ultra diesel and he was also adding cetane and other additives to his fuel... a lot of effort to get better milleage!

Put Vaseline on the door handles...

It`s problem without a solution. My dealer jury-rig a solution so it doesn`t leak anymore. As soon as they have a permanent fix they will contact me to apply the fix.
