  1. Peep-I just had a gut wrenching laugh after seeing your card.
  2. I was the same -thanks for the post. The commercials were very thought provoking-maybe the masses won't get it. Even 10,000 smarts in a population of over 30 million is extremely small.
  3. Very nice smartdawg! But why is the smart an all black cabrio? Just coincidence? I think it should be changed to a bay grey coupe.
  4. Hey! Hey! It's party time-people are coming in from the wilderness-yes!You're now among smart ''friends''-Welcome!
  5. That's a great idea. I remember looking at pictures from Holland done by a professional photographer on the other site that featured smart cars. I can't remember the name of the man and it is lost in the schmoz of the other site. I think Kyotocar would be able to help with the name. A link to that would be great. Thanks!
  6. Hey Ramona! Glad to see that you found the new site. Didn't I see you earlier on Wortley Road with the other 4 smartaholics? It looks like we've got a little smart club happenning in London Ontario. Maybe we should try to have an official meeting once a month. What about the first Tuesday of the month -at Wortley Road-weather permitting? Cheers!
  7. So glad to see that you finally took delivery. The excitement will probably die down in about a year! Enjoy!
  8. Today had a friend offer me the use of a hoist. Planned on putting 3M protective film on the rockers but I couldn't remove the guards. So I turned my attention to installing the Gorilla motorcycle alarm. Started by removing the rear plastic shield-easy. Was looking on how to access the battery but couldn't find an easy way and had to remove the front plastic shield-again easy. Still couldn't see any wires leading into the cab so I assume they must go through up front but I didn't want to remove the front trim piece. Looked around and figured I could drill a small hole through the battery carrier that protrudes through to the bottom. You guys might be a little upset because I didn't have a camera with me.(I promise I will the next time) So I found a good cross member on the left of the car to mount the tilt sensor and alarm horn(all small because it's designed for motorcycles) Next I threaded the wires around and through the hole I had drilled into the battery carrier. Put the bottom shields back on. The alarm system has a red wire to the +and black to the- plus a cool little red led light. I found a good spot on the passenger side dash board for the led light. Drilled a small hole and threaded the wire down to connect the light. I love the way it works. There is a tilt ,shock, and electric sensor that will sound the alarm. When the alarm is activated the red light on the dash flashes and if the car is shocked it gives a warning ''chirp'' before going into the siren thing. Apparently you can adjust the sensitivity but I ran out of time-and didn't want to wake all the neighbours. I paid $125 from the local motorcycle shop.I think I remember someone mentioning it can be picked up a lot cheaper(where's s-mack?) but I was supporting the local boys. I probably spent a good 5hrs doing it but I was also exploring under there. You'll be happy to know that it is very well built and under the protective plastic panels all the parts are coated with rust protector-DO NOT PAY FOR UNDERCOATING-it's already done. I was on a bit of a roll today because I also installed a Brabus front grill-but that only took about 5 mins. Next time the camera but you'll have to excuse me because I was pretty excited about getting the use of a hoist.
  9. When they reduce the sulfur in the fuel next year will the cetane be increased?
  10. Got my bag of goodies but never received the model car.
  11. I was guilty about not posting my location and I apologize. I guess I'm still in shock over what happenned on the smart.mbcanada site. I was trying to reply on the 25th May at 1030pm when it was locked down by the administrators. There had been requests by greenbean, smartzuuk, glasslady,Eddie, herringchoker, and doozy that were protesting the merge into a single topic and I found them all to be very reasonable. There were two responses from GermanStar and cooper(mbcanada staff)that were arrogant and condescending. I am still puzzled and hurt by their actions. I am glad to see an all smart forum here and will still visit the other site because of the smart enthusiasts. The banning, merging, and censorship thing has left a bitter taste in my mouth. As GermanStar pointed out the other night"IT'S JUST THE INTERNET'' and he's right but he will never understand the special feeling you get when you own and experience the smart. Anyways that's my rant of the morning. I promised myself that I would post less and drive more.See ya!
  12. Hey Spinner- just let me know if you're ever heading this way(sorry I won't see you at steamwhistle). I am going to try and organize a regular meeting day in London(I guess that 's ok to say here but not over there) and I will keep you posted. I can't beleive how quick you guys are at replying to posts. My two finger typing is improving but I'm still so slow-my daughters laugh at me-oh well. Nice to see the smart community continuing.
  13. I've been a diesel lover since the early 70's after owning a 1955 AC WD45 diesel tractor. You begin to respect the durability, reliability, and efficiency of the diesel. I next bought a 1983(brand new)Mazda B2200 diesel that lasted 19years. My next purchase was a 1986 Toyota Landcruiser 4l diesel in 1989 that I still own and has 460,000km. In 1997 I bought a 1982 MB SD300 Turbo diesel that I have enjoyed restoring. It was easy to recognize the quality that Mercedes puts into their products. That was when I became interested in the Mercedes Benz A class and followed the development of the smart. I never beleived that the smart would be brought to North America where the big is beautiful philosophy rules. On Nov.1 2002 I was literally stopped in my tracks when I spotted a smart parked in front of the MB dealer in London. I was all over that car and even talked the manager into giving me a ride and the next day a short test drive. That convinced me so I put down a $500 deposit even though the car was not scheduled to be brought to Canada. I went through two salesman and still no news of the smart coming so the dealer refunded my deposit in Jan 2004. The salesman told me that if the smart wasn't going to the USA it would never come to Canada because we're such a small market. So off I go on a trip with the boys and I get a phone call from my wife because the MB President of Canada had announced that the smart would be coming to Canada and I was put back on the list to receive the smart. I placed my order for my custom car in Jun2004 and she was delivered on the 13th of Dec.2004. I am still thrilled with the smart and find it to be an engineering marvel that meets and exceeds all my needs and expectations. It is indeed a passion and her name is Gina. I now have 11,500kms on my baby and she continues to get a nightly bath. Did I mention that the smart can change your lifestyle. Anyways that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Luckily I've found a few other smartaholics in London that share the passion so I know I'm not alone in the way I think. Hope to see you on the road. Glenn.smart142.
  14. I've got a story not about what was said but what was done. Drove London to Sarnia on the 402 on friday doing between 120-130 and a Honda crv would slow down and then pass and then slow down. Should have noticed the NewJersey plates-so I slow down because I notice they have finally found their camera and they are pulling up to take pictures through the open passenger window. I'm trying to help out by maintaining their speed and smiling and not realizing we've entered a 80 zone and have to brake for the law abiding citizen in front of me.I can verify that the smarts brakes are excellent and my new American friends missed a good picture of me rear ending a Saturn. You gotta love the smart.
