That's what I doubted. Can I put a common car battery? I already heard of a gel type battery for these cars. My alternator died last year and it was it's voltage regulator. There was no way I would spend over $400 for that part.What is the use to own these cars to save on fuel when the price of the parts is 3 times higher!I've been able to get the regulator from Europe and it has cost me $65 for Bosch OEM.I did the job myself and while I was there I changed the belts too. Total cost $100

Hi, I've just put back my alternator after changing the regulator and from what I see on tha ampmeter on my battery charger, I think that my battery is at the end or not far. Is it dangerous for my alternator to run with a battery that is at the end of the line?Does it take a special battery in these cars? 2005 Smart fortwo Pulse

Hi, i had exactly the same problem with my 2005 lately and because it was intermittent it made the car totally unreliable I called the dealer here in Quebec and had it towed by mercedes road assistance, they checked it a couple of days and it did'nt refuse to start but they told me that they changed the starter that it could be the problem and they said they have had a couple of similar cases like that in the past.I got my car back and it did'nt do it again but i did'nt have the chance to check it for long because i winterized it, we have a darn winter here. I checked under to see if they really changed it and i'm not sure where it is mounted.Does anyone know exactly where the starter is located? Is it easy to see from under? The car is sitting over my pit so i can go check anytime.They did the job under warranty.

Does the computer takes its informations from sensors at the front wheels ? Does that distort the datas ? for auto shift by example ? or the arrow indicating it's time to shift ?

Hi, could anybody tell me why Mercedes has choosen to put narrower tires in front ?Beside to steer easier at low speed and to lower the risks of aquaplaning i don't see other reasons. I think it has a negative effect on stability in curbs, it's kind of wobbly. Does anybody tried to put the same size of tires in front than rear ?

Hi to every body I'm new to smart since i bought my fortwo two months ago. I realy like it and it's fun to drive. People keep asking me questions about this car every day, they're more amazed than with my 911 I wanted an economical car to drive but special and i succeeded by buying this fortwo !I believe in Forums like this, i think it's the best tool a car owner could have.
