  1. i bought it last march. it's an 06 cdi with 94000kms currently.the list is large but everything was on the way(or i should say in the way of the alt and starter).going back in the second time was a bit disheartening but went well.the first round is listed here.http://clubsmartcar.com/index.php?s=&s...st&p=292525
  2. a few days before christmas my starter packed it in.the great punkin was due for a massage with so many little things needing attention.while i was in there i cleaned the egr, fixed a leaky vent tube grommetrepaired the chewed up intercooler, removed the offending piece from the fan shroud, although i didn't take the 6mm as posted elsewhere.flushed the cooling system, installed a restrictor in the water pump inlet.disassembled the alternator to clean the connections on the regulator. this was to remedy the pulsing light syndrome.cleaned the grounds and related pieces.everything seemed to be okay with the alternator as there was no pulsing but the voltage reading was 13.8 i thought it would be alright. famous last words. while driving my daughter to a friends last friday night the car started losing its' electrics.the regulator was the culprit. another tow and another trip into the engine bay set it straight.i hope this is the end of the failures. i not accustomed to an unreliable machine.
  3. i like to have a little fun on hallowe'en. this year the great punkin was in on the action.
  4. thanks for the quick replies. i will recheck the grounds in the rear. i cleaned up the terminals on the rear ground strap when i first bought it, but should replace it just to be sure. i dismissed the alternator only because the pulsing remains constant at all speeds and electric draws. i guess if the starter wire developed corrosion then it's possible the alternator could do the same. i'm not looking forward to pulling the alternator. i'll work it into the thermostat and pipe restriction mod. the a/c is in the way from above. is the thermostat accessible with the alternator removed?
  5. the lights on the great punkin pulse at constant rate of about twice per second.this is regardless of engine speed or electric load. only the hid's are constant but i'm sure it's not healthy for the ballast. i've checked battery voltage with both dvom and analogue meters and it appears to be constant.the only thing i haven't tried is pulling a data stream with my genesys scanner if it's even possible with a smart. alot of non smarts regulate the voltage in the dash but clearly the smart engineers stepped outside the box a few times.so... if anyone has experienced this and has a proper repair please post it up.i'm looking for a specific repair not just "sam" or "i can sell you a sam". i can't be the first smart to do this. thanks, dennis and the great punkin.
  6. i slept on the sofa mostly. i have a pile of vintage bikes as well. always something to do with them. i am enjoying it alot. i don't ask much of my cars so it has been a good experience.i did all the work myself. i have a repair shop in london so tackled it in the spare hours.from the block heater plug mod to the battery cable replacement happened in the last two weeks.i bought it in late march and took care of the mechanical stuff immediately.the stereo was a major disappointment and couldn't be replaced soon enough. i took care of everything related to that while the dash was out.
  7. hello all, while i did nothing to my smart today (except to do an afternoon coffee run) i did order a scangauge II and used wiper switch from smartzuuk.i have been busy with servicing it before winter hits so i'll see if i can remember everything i've done in reverse order.replaced neg battery cable, cleaned grounds, cleaned out the battery hole and repaired the broken battery hold down bolt. (broke off on disassembly)made the interior heater cord accessible.installed h.i.d.s on the low beams. switched the signal location back to the headlight housing. wired the former signals to run clear bulbs along with the peanuts in the headlights. pseudo drl'spainted the grille gloss blackinstalled a headlight on reminder. i remember to turn on my markers for visibility but can't seem to remember to shut them off on arrival.installed winter wheels. set front toe.repaired the starter solenoid connection. first caa call in 25 years of membership. installed a conventional plug on the block heater.installed 6" speakers in the dash. drilled out most of the remaining holes in the speaker cavities. replaced stereo. reupholstered the dash in black basketweave vinyl.made a cover for the rear area.replaced the big gulp cup holder with a generic cup holder. two cups, a coin catcher and map pocket.removed the non functioning clock. a prime location for the scangauge.pads, rotors, shoes, ball joints. all fluids and filters including cabin filter.replaced wipers and set wipers to park vertically.i bought a kwp2000 but have yet to play with mapping.dennis and the great punkin
  8. thanks for the welcome. Leadwing, we did get a fit as well. a 2007 lx. the intermediate model(a/c p/w).love it. we got a silver one to hide the salt and sand. so far i'm enjoying the smart (which i have christened Punkin). i'm sure we'll make it to at least a few meets. i have a few things to tidy up on it before it goes anywhere.i can't seem to pull up my original image. have i done something wrong?
  9. hi hockey, can you tell me a little about the snows for stock wheels. age? tread depth? contis or b/s?thanks
  10. hello everyone, i brought home my smart last night. the esp got a workout from stratford to london as it was a white knuckle drive through ice and snow drifts with its' summer tires.2006 cabrio w/81000kms. it appears to have lived the first part of it's life in toronto according to the service booklet. receipts in the tray are from kitchener.we were in stratford test driving honda fits when i saw it out back at the dealership. it had just came in on trade. in the end we bought two cars. go figure. here is a photo. no comments on the salt and dirt please.
