The clutch in my 2005 ForTwo diesel died suddenly. Getting a replacement was a challenge but was accomplished. However, I'm in the States - New York to be precise - and the reactions I get when asking if someone can work on this car are almost priceless. Are there any suggestions on how to find a transmission shop that would be likely to want to take this on? Most people around here have never encountered this car, which was brought in from Canada. If towing it back was feasible, I would do that, but that would be expensive and a huge investment of time. Is this worth making a ton of phone calls or is there a quicker method of finding the right place?

One of my mirrors doesn't lock into place as it should it still functional but I want to replace it I went to eBay start looking . I founda lot of really neet aftermarket mirrors but they say they go up to 2005 K450 . What is the difference between that and the 2006 W450 . I understand there is some body panel differences but does that affect the mirror placement or mounting pad? Also does driver position matter when it comes to mounting mirrors?. They are both electrical adjustable.

Hello Members, The mechanic diagosed that the Smart has failed bearings in the rear. He showed me how the wheels were noisy and had a play while on the hoist. They quoted $700 with parts and labor. Considering the cost involved and suggestions from a member in this forum, I have decided to undertake this project myself. I am completely naive to repairing a car. But I believe you members will guide me through this. Step 1 is to procure the wheel bearing hub assembly. Several eBay sellers have it for approx CAD 120 including shipping. The mechanic had the same part for CAD 230. Do you guys know any supplier in GTA who has better deals. Am trying to squeeze in as much as possible. I will post the progress and seek more help along this project. Cheers!

Hi there! This will be my first winter with my 2005 diesel smart car. It's been extremely cold these past few days and my car has not been able to start. I was told that leaving it plugged in for an hour in the morning before work using the block heater would help. I got the car used and unfortunately I don't really know much about cars although I'm eager to learn. There's what I'm assuming is the converter on the left front of the car, I was told the block heater was sold separately and directly from Mercedes-Benz. If anyone could provide some insight on this (ie. pictures of what either would look like?) or provide feedback on how they keep their cars going in the winter it would be much appreciated!! Audrey

Hello everyone! Recently purchased a 2006 Grandstyle 0.8 CDI for my brother about 2 weeks ago, and am thinking of purchasing one for myself (1hr commute on south western ontario highways to Waterloo for school)... Currently own a petrol bug that just seems to drink way too much gas in comparison to the adorable smart car. Thinking of getting a CDI just for fuel mileage even though they are about 11 years old now However I drive a lot on awful roads to get to school and to get to work. Near Waterloo (back country roads) does anyone have any experience ? Also, any advice on safety ratings? My boyfriend is very "large truck" oriented and believes it's a death trap.

Hey everyone! My name is Jeff, and I have been looking into purchasing a used Smart. based on my budget, I can afford either a 2005, 2006 or 2008. I do very little high way driving, but I do visit family every once and a wile out of town. I heard gas smarts are better for winter as they produce more heat that diesel engines, but I have no idea what I am really doing. I will attach links bellow with the ones I am looking at. I am a total car newbie and this will be my first vehicle. I'd really like it to be a smart, but I don't know the first thing about buying a used smart. Any and all help would be super appreciated! 2008 Smart: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/edmonton/2008-smart-fortwo-pure-extremely-low-mownthly-paymnets-apply-n/1194181109?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true 2005 Smart: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/edmonton/smart-for-two-2005-passion/1197815490?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true 2006 Smart: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/edmonton/2006-smart-fortwo-pure/1197343289?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true I am leaning towards the 2008 because I believe they have cruise control, which is super important if I visit family outside the city. Thanks everyone In advance!! I can't wait to own a smart; been a dream of mine since the first came here in Canada. - Jeff

Hello, I'm looking for a complete set of rims mounted with winter tires. The vehicle is a 2005 Smart ForTwo cdi. Canadians: We're located in Rochester, NY USA. It's 3 hours from Toronto. We'd be willing to meet near the border or we could potentially drive into Ontario to get the wheels. Please drop me an email or send a PM if you have a set! Many thanks! $3000, located in Aurora ON This Smart has been well maintained, kept very clean. It has served me so well as a daily driver over the years and I have mixed feelings about parting with it, but I'm treating myself to a new one :-) The B service was just completed (Oil, filter, air filter etc.) and it was noted that the front brake pads will need replacing soon and the front right coil is broken. Summer tires were new last year. Rear cargo cover. Block heater installed at the dealership with cord.
