  1. This blog to be referred to once you have properly diagnosed a faulty crankshaft sensor (2005 - 2006 smart cdi) model only. Follow the diagrams. Note it was not an easy task but "NOTHING" else was needed to be removed in order to replace the crankshaft sensor. A good flash light is a must. You will also need to raise the rear of the vehicle to gain access from the bottom. (If you are a shop and have a lift it will simplify things)
  2. Hi, I just acquired a 2005 450 CDI. My dad and I rebuilt the engine. Had the block and head serviced at machine shop and cylinder bores rehoned, they checked the valves and said it all looks good. We replaced the lifters and rocker arms, piston rings, new bearings, all new seals and gaskets, new turbo, intercooler, starter and alternator rebuilt, deleted egr, cleaned injectors, and of course new belts. We didn't replace the timing chain, tensioner, or guides because they looked good and figured they must have been already done before we bought the car. I'm hearing a ticking sound from the engine. It isn't terribly loud but noticeable for sure, especially at idle. I'm wondering if this is normal for a CDI? Is this just how they sound? I've heard usually it's lifters but since we replaced them and even put new rocker arms in (new from MB) I can't see how? The timing chain is tight and seems to have likely been replaced before. Is there something I might be missing? Thanks for the help. Love this car and would like to keep it in the long run. Cheers.
  3. Hello Members, The mechanic diagosed that the Smart has failed bearings in the rear. He showed me how the wheels were noisy and had a play while on the hoist. They quoted $700 with parts and labor. Considering the cost involved and suggestions from a member in this forum, I have decided to undertake this project myself. I am completely naive to repairing a car. But I believe you members will guide me through this. Step 1 is to procure the wheel bearing hub assembly. Several eBay sellers have it for approx CAD 120 including shipping. The mechanic had the same part for CAD 230. Do you guys know any supplier in GTA who has better deals. Am trying to squeeze in as much as possible. I will post the progress and seek more help along this project. Cheers!
