Firstly I am unsure of the model of my smart car - it seems its a rare bread, it was registered in 2003 in Germany and is a 799cc Diesel Engine, Pulse CDI I believe but I cannot find much info about the actual model number. So last night whilst driving home the abs and the warning light came on, but the brakes still worked fine. When I got home I switched the car off and on and the ABS light was still but the warning light had gone. This morning I started the car - abs still on initially, but started to drive and it went off, but then I was unable to shift up from 1st gear. So 1st, Neutral and revers all work, it just wont go from 1st to 2nd. On another note I had noticed that a sort of mild grinding noise had started to come from the rear, it sounds like brake disks/brake pads worn sort of sound, but as yet I haven't checked. I have searched and seen lots of posts about the gear being stuck in park but nothing about unable to shift up. If anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful :-) Thanks Dave

G'day, Does anyone happen to know if the 451's rear reluctor rings are as similarly prone to cracking as those of the 450? Our 450's rings failed around 56,000km; our 451 just rolled over 136,000km. and an intermittent ABS warning from late last week has now become permanent. I can't scan it at the moment as my wife ran away with our truck which just so happens to have my OBDII dongle in it.

G'day, Does anyone know if pairing 165/60 rear tires against the OE 155/60 front will cause undesired ESP/ABS intervention? Last season's Hakkapeliitta R2 fronts are in great shape, but the mystery brand rears are done and Nokian does not provide a the OE 175/55 rear tire. 165/60 rear should turn approximately 12 revolutions per km less than the fronts, which is double that of the OE 175/55 rear. Whether or not that will trip the nanny system, I have no idea. Hopefully someone out there has tried this combination and has some feedback to share.

Hi, yesterday my BRAKE and ESP warning lights starting coming on and staying on. Than I turn off the engine and waite for a while. So I tun it back on but the lights stayed on. I drive carefully but the SPEEDOMETER showed 0 (zero) and stayed there. The dealer of garage said it could be my ABS SENSOR. So I want to know what is right? What can I do with this problem? Anyone knows this problem? Thanks !!! (Smart 450 MC01, 1999 model)
