Hello I'm parting out my 2005 smart fortwo cdi. One of the valves got damaged from the rocker and it isn't worth fixing anymore. Besides that everything else worked great. 2 of 3 injectors were recently rebuilt. New crank sensor. New fuel regulator. High pressure pump still cranks at 379 bar. Alternator and starter both work great. Summer tires on alloys and winter tires on steelies. Turbo, muffler. Let me know what you need and we can work something out! Everything is available still!

G'day, Does anyone happen to know what type(s) of metal make up the joint between the muffler's flex pipe and the rigid section just down stream of the manifold flange? At ~90,000km the flex pipe on ours is failing just a bit down stream from the manifold flange. It is no longer affixed to the rigid portion of the pipe, and it can slide back & forth a ways without coming completely free. The resulting noise is not unreasonable (yet), but the failure is allowing the muffler to swing in the hangers and it's slowly bashing a divot out of the rear skirt. I have half a mind to try to tack weld the two sections back together rather than dropping half a grand on a new assembly, but I have no idea what type of wire I would need to use.

2. My muffler is separating at the bottom seam. I've seen a post that Uncle Glenn does a welded patch fix for that. Given that I can stop in at London when traveling that direction (usually twice a year), is it possible to stop in, let the thing cool down enough to remove, and then "trade" (in the form of purchasing a rehabilitated one, and leave my core behind)? Or is there anyone else out there that can help? Tedder, in the beautiful thousand islands

I was under the impression that the smart fortwo 450 had TWO exhausts (inside the two red squares), but I've now learned that it's actually the center piece (blue square). My question is: What the hell are those two pipes on the sides anyway? I've been looking for the last hour online and can't find any information on them. Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

Loud rattling sound coming from the muffler if that's even possible - very odd - happened from one day to the next - car runs fine but the loud rattling sound is driving us bonkers. Climbed underneath to locate the source location of sound worried it might be coming from the engine but seems to be between muffler and whatever is above the muffler ..possibly a heat shield ?? Wondering if anyone might know or may have experienced this issue -- I made a short video to 'demonstrate' the rattling sound - just having difficulty uploading it to this forum. Also....we notice that the car seemed to struggle to start (which we believed was as a result of the cold weather) and when it did start there was a puff of smoke out the tail pipe - more so than usual - but again...it runs fine once it gets going without any additional excess smoke. We thought it might be soot in the muffler being shaken loose with the rattling. Oh and while I was inspecting the rattling sound one of the headlights burned out -- sigh 'Calgon...take me away'
