Suddenly, our 2006 Pulse 450 with 71K km sounds very noisy when decelerating! Almost like a Jake Brake on a big rig. My local shop (Marc's Auto - Midland ON - usually pretty good on Smarts) hasn't come up with a fix. All muffler and joints appear good, no holes, and no OBD codes. Litres per 100km still around 4.4, temp OK after a thermostat replacement couple of months back. and nothing out of normal noted. Any ideas?? Mike - Penetang area .....> -
No visible smoke coming from the car. I can not start the car and sit still without being chocked out inside with the nasty exhaust smell! Windows are up. The air around the car and 30 feet away will be saturated with the nasty exhaust smell if I start the car and let idle for 10 minutes. I have to shut the heater fan off at stop lights or the exhaust gets sucked in! -
G'day, Does anyone happen to know what type(s) of metal make up the joint between the muffler's flex pipe and the rigid section just down stream of the manifold flange? At ~90,000km the flex pipe on ours is failing just a bit down stream from the manifold flange. It is no longer affixed to the rigid portion of the pipe, and it can slide back & forth a ways without coming completely free. The resulting noise is not unreasonable (yet), but the failure is allowing the muffler to swing in the hangers and it's slowly bashing a divot out of the rear skirt. I have half a mind to try to tack weld the two sections back together rather than dropping half a grand on a new assembly, but I have no idea what type of wire I would need to use.

Poor performance Exhaust DPF

Can anyone tell me if the exhaust is fitted with a DPF or a similar version of a DPF or catalytic converter that can get clogged up and cause a poor engine performance issue like low power and black smoke? Vehicle is a 2006 fortwo Diesel -
I was under the impression that the smart fortwo 450 had TWO exhausts (inside the two red squares), but I've now learned that it's actually the center piece (blue square). My question is: What the hell are those two pipes on the sides anyway? I've been looking for the last hour online and can't find any information on them. Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

hi folks !! I just purchased a 2016 prime with sport package. 1.is it possible to convert the rear drum brakes to disc? 2.is it possible to convert the single exhaust to the center dual exhaust as seen in the brabus website? 3.the front tires are 185 and the rear tires are 205...can the front tires also be 205 for improved traction and lateral stability? 4.can these modifications be accomplished by the smart dealer or brabus? thank you for your help
