Keith

When you are at my place on Sept 7, the last Haugen's (Manchester Ontario http://www.clubsmartcar.ca/forums/viewtopi...p?p=17459#17459 event of the year is that night. I usually go. It is only 15 minutes from my place.

We could go there from 6 to 8 pm and any other smart people NE of Toronto who want to meet you could come

I know MattDaddy was planning on being there also

We could do the oil change afterward.

Rich

Deal.

I'm in Thunder Bay now, updating the site. Sorry for the delays. Wpg was a great place to stop, but the wireless conked out on me, so I had to rush to Thunder Bay to update the site. The Province ran an article today I haven't read. The smart is said to be a hybrid. Oh well. The website got 10 times the visitors today.

Ontario is calling - Sault Ste Marie, London, Sudburt, Kingston - they all want to have an OTC event, but I can only do 2 probably. Kingston on the 8th around 10:30 am, place to be determined. Sudbury I will accomodate on the way back. London is too short notice to do on the Tuesday or Wednesday. C'est la vie. Charlottetown and Sydney both want events, and I can only do one, so I'm taking PEI, since Sydney I can't get to in time on the Sunday to have one anyway.

Originally, this was to be 6 weeks from Victoria to St Johns, then back to Halifax or Toronto, and then fly home. The same area is now being visited in 4 weeks - that's 14 days less to spread around. Montreal is going to be a blast. I have a welcome from a smart specialists mother to stay there both ways, and they are assisting with some other arrangements in Baie-Comeau, Quebec City and Ottawa. This will be a slowed down time as well (like South Ontario).

My itinerary is very set in stone due to the ferry from N Sydney to Argentia, and then of course the sailing in the St Lawrence. What are we doing in London on Monday, and what time? I have to be in Bradford by 5 pm.

I take the ferry to Tobermory on Sunday, and spend the night in Mitchell.

Try to come before noon but usually I'm up by 0600hrs-so anytime in the morning is OK! I'm rounding up people for a BBQ at lunchtime that should have a number of smarts showing up! I've contacted the Free Press so hopefully they will send someone out. A tour of the city in the smarts would attract a lot of attention! Just pm me if you need directions or phone#.

We plan to be in Port Perry too. Looking forward to meeting Keith, Rich and others there. Rich: we've enjoyed reading your pieces in the Toronto Sun.

Thank you very much. Do you have a smart car? From your posts, it looks like you have traveled in your smart also. It will be fun to compare notes. I just got back from NYC and am going to Bentonville, Arkansas in 2 weeks.

We left Toronto July 8th in our smart car Trudi and drove to Chicago where Route 66 starts. Following the "mother road" as much as possible we drove to Santa Monica, CA. From there we headed north on the Pacific Coast Highway through San Francisco and Seattle to Vancouver where we turned right and headed home on the Trans-Canada. The 14, 474 km trip took 34 days and we spent only $448 on fuel.

Since there were two of us plus camping gear and luggage we did not achieve anywhere near the fuel economy that Keith is getting. We calculated an average of 4.6/100 km.

Our story has recently been published in the Sussex Express in England and can be viewed on my Sept 2 blog post.

WOW, I am impressed. Can't wait to meet you on Sept 7. You and Keith should have a lot to discuss.

My 3,500 km trips pale compared to that. Did you tow a small trailer or just pack carefully? My trips are by myself so I just load up the back. The passenger seat is usually reserved for my computer w GPS and my MP3 player. I am a big Harry Potter fan and have all 6 books read unabridged. Book 5 is 27 hours long. I love to listen and drive for hours. Then stop anywhere for a small car show and meet people

They might just come as Annette and Keith (both >14,500 km trips) as well as others who do long trips like myself.

Could be very cool.

Hi! Just wanted to say that I saw Keith interviewed on the London news earlier this week. I was barely paying attention to the news, when I heard something about smart cars and it caught my attention. It caught my attention even more when I recognized the car from "enthusiast42"'s avatar here. It's totally awesome what you're doing! Congratulations on being a celebrity now! :)

Hi smart is not modified. All it really takes is a steady LIGHT foot, good anticipation of lights, and a small amount of discipline.

And if you can stomach it... drive 8-9' behind huge semi trucks :) But I guarantee you'll pay more in windshields than you save in gas lol

AND a high degree of knowing the right gear for the environment. He's a diva when it comes to that!
