smartcruzin Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Sounds sweet and I'm sure the quality is better now that MB has dumped Chrysler! Enjoy Quote
MikeT Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 We got 6.4 in the rain with two up on the way back from Victoria tonight, A/C and heated seats on. Lifetime FE is showing on the car's BordComputer as 7.3 L/100 km.Boo yeah! Quote
mixed Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Nice lookin ride Mike and possibly my next car........ Quote
MikeT Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 The Turbo's FE is significantly worse. In all honesty, the B 200 car is an absolute rocket compared to my Peugeot, which is already mind-blowingly faster than a remapped smart cdi; it has more power and torque than I would ever need.....plus it's capable of sub 6 L/100 numbers according to Derek Lecours (located in QC) of the B-Class forum. Also, the Turbo is a more complex engine with higher internal stresses. So if it's a 300,000+ km keeper, stick with the base model. Quote
mixed Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Go turbo.... and 6 speed.yeah ..........I am pretty much all turbo'd out.... this will probably be my last. Quote
smartcruzin Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Oh no, I'm totally in love with the new ML CDI. Saw another today in the dark metallic blue shade. Kiss retirement goodbye for a couple of extra years, I think.Damn, just when I thought the Smart may be my last vehicle MB keeps producing these works of art! Sweet machines. Quote
smartzuuk Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Funny how the ML CDI is $45000 in the States. Quote
MikeT Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 After 7 days, the car's lifetime FE according to the OEM BordComputer unit is 7.2 L/100 km (probably 7.25, it just went down from 7.3), and after two fills the actual measured pump FE is 7.45 L/100 km. So it's probably going to be a 7.0 L/100 km car for us, which is about half a litre better than I had hoped for. I am the B 200 Spritmonitor leader! On a run to Victoria and back, it is in the 5.8-6.2 range, when it's not raining, with four aboard. The smart does about 4.0 on that run, on the wide tires, with two up, driving normally. Quote
smartcruzin Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I saw a beautiful classic MB sports car from the 50-60's(?) in Oak Bay today in the same light blue metallic colour. They've been using this colour for decades it seems? Didn't know that. My other favorite 'B' colour is the candy apple red. Both really highlight the car better than black, grey or white. Quote
smartzuuk Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Mike - How does the B200 outshine the Toyota Matrix? Quote
MikeT Posted November 12, 2007 Author Posted November 12, 2007 No idea, I've not driven a Matrix. The design is made to appeal to 20 year olds (the interior at least), which is one reason I don't like it....in the showroom at least. The Toyota's suspension is simpler (torsion beam axle) and it's shorter/smaller inside. FE is better though, so they say. Probably a fine car in its own right, and a lot cheaper than the B. Quote
smartzuuk Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I ask, because the Matrix and the B are two 'wagons' that Cynthia doesn't mind the shape of. She happens to like that light blue. ;-)The Escort is due to be replaced. Quote
MikeT Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 The new Matrix is going to be uglified in a serious way....the body of the new car is hideous. The current Matrix looks quite OK to me, I just don't care for the interior. The FE of the present model should be close to 1 L/100 better than the B 200, but I am not convinced that it will be that much better in real world conditions: the car weighs only 60 kg less than the B 200, and the engine is only about 8 HP less powerful. So I figure they'd be pretty close. The B 200 has a better Cd, of 0.30, versus 0.32. Quote
smartzuuk Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 A used B is very tempting at some point.Eddy - how about my cab and $10k? ;-) Quote
Duck Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 The new Matrix is going to be uglified in a serious way....the body of the new car is hideous. Is this it? That back end makes me think of the Avantime!! I agree, that's not that attractive to me. The current matrix yeah the lines are good on it. I really like that crease around the back wheel area. -Iain Quote
MikeT Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 No that's not it, just look up 2009 Matrix and you'll get it. I actually like the one above! Quote
Duck Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 That's what I searched for 2009 matrix, that's what came up. All the other pictures are of the current one.... or a diapered one. Hmm...I wonder if they'd launch the new Scion xD as the Matrix up here?! That would ROCK!-Iain Quote
MikeT Posted November 24, 2007 Author Posted November 24, 2007 I saw about 30 B Classes on the road or parked on the street in Vancouver on a 24 hour trip that ended this evening. I saw about 5 smarts in the same period. Wow! Quote
Francesco Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I'd sat in Bs a few times over the last couple of years. Nice, and the B was near the top of my list before I got the fortwo.Today I brought the smart in for a long-awaited appointment (three weeks!) to find the clunk. Got the first slot of the morning (7:30) and left waaay early because of the snow. Of course, everybody there showed up late. At 8:45 they issued me my loaner ($15), and found out after clearing a foot of snow off it that the last idiot who had the smart loaner left it bone-dry."Sorry sir, it'll be couple of minutes while I get you a B-Class."YESSS!It is one sweet ride, with a ton of nice features for $30K. It handles this awful weather beautifully. I'm even enjoying the CVT with the slap-stick. The ESP is very good, too. And the best part? I called Elly at 4:00 pm and she confided, "I guess you can enjoy the B a while longer -- we haven't seen your car yet. Oh, and we'll cover the loaner fees, too."Mike, I'm even more envious now. MikeT Posted December 5, 2007 Author Posted December 5, 2007 Update: the car has a leak of some sort from the roof area. Interior cloth trim on the A-pillar and LF corner of the headliner were visibly damp Monday AM. I initially attributed it to rampant condensation from mega-wet people getting in and out on the weekend with snowy boots. Sunday night the underside of the sunroof was full of condensation droplets as a result of all the moisture we were bringing into the car with our clothing. Saturated/drenched doesn't describe it....The floor is dry other than the stuff from feet....Tuesday AM there was a less extensive staining inndicating water penetration. Could either be leftover condensation, or evidence of more leakage. The car goes to TPM on the 13th for a partial dissection, and I hope, the definitive cure. Even my smart cabriolet does not leak!! Quote
deezle Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Bummer. I hope they can pinpoint it and fix it tout de suite. Have you read of any other B's having that issue? Quote
MikeT Posted December 5, 2007 Author Posted December 5, 2007 Some on the German forum reported issues in early cars (pre-2007 models) but supposedly that has been fixed. We shall see! Quote
