Guest bogordoug Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Well this morning I got a notice from SmartCenterCary.com that my car was in port and they would be contacting me in the next several days. Gave me the info on "sales tax", plates/tags, and the "document preparation fee". What no delivery charge fee? Interesting fact was the document which contained this information was in odt format (Open Office). Maybe Smart will also help wth the Microsoft monopoly. Quote
Gene_SD Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Hey Mike T, just wanted to let you know that smart newsletter #12 came out and had a picture of ship in port unloading cars. The name on the side was "ARC" I don't know if this will help you out or not but I thought I would pass it along. Quote

Welcome to the club, bogordoug.Just curious, what was the document preperation fee amt? That's cool that they use open office. I would think that all companies would switch to the free alternative. I use NeoOffice which is a port of Open Office for the Mac. I save my files in Office format for compatibility just in case. Quote

MikeT Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 Here is what I get for ARC: ARC Shipping. It seems that online tracking is out of the question, then..... Quote
gotwavs Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 (edited) Actually I'm pretty sure that is this ARC (American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier) is the ARC that was pictured in the newsletter: http://www.arrcnet.com/fleet.htm They have pictures of their ships and they have the same ARC logo on the side of the ships. I didn't notice any online tracking on their site either. Edited January 16, 2008 by gotwavs Quote
damman Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Does anybody know if there are any silver/silver smart cabrios with the red interior headed for the Twin Cities (Minnesota)? My wife talk to a dealer in minnesota this afternoon in bloomington and he said they were getting two cars in by this weekend to show. MDFortwoguy Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Mike: I noticed that they are paired with WWL as per this page of the site: http://www.arrcnet.com/arc2.htm Perhaps that may be of help? Quote
MikeT Posted January 17, 2008 Author Posted January 17, 2008 Hmm, that carrier doesn't even go to Bremerhaven. Could it be that ALL US model cars are being shipped to Baltimore first, then some of these are being loaded onto ARC ships at Baltimore for redistribution to Jacksonville and Long Beach? In practise, this seems not to be the case, because I've yet to find any VINs from FL or CA cars on the W-W manifests. MikeT Posted January 17, 2008 Author Posted January 17, 2008 (edited) I checked the schedule and none were going soon at least. Plus they don't offer online tracking. Bummer! Edited January 17, 2008 by Mike T Quote
Mikey Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Jon said: I asked my dealer that question. He said that it was his understanding that the cars going to Jacksonville and Long Beach are shipped directly there from Europe. My concern is that I am to pick up my car in Sarasota. I bought a Mazda Miata that had come down from Jacksonville via rail. The paint was incrusted in "Rail Dust" which began to rust and create little rainbows all over the paint. I had to fight to get the dealership to do a complete detail to get the rail dust off the car. It took using some procedure involving a clay to rub the paint clean. The Clearwater, Florida dealership won't even open until late February or early March. Quote

gotwavs Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I stoped by the smart center Portland today and snapped some pics of the vins. I got 30 of the 34 or so cars on the lot.
