MikeT Posted July 2, 2008 Author Posted July 2, 2008 411 451s were sold in June 2008 in Canada. The Year-To-Date is just shy of 2000, so a 4000 unit year still seems likely. Sales in June 2007 were better, at 467 units, however that was when the last of the 450s were selling out and the Eco Rebate had just been announced. Quote
Nextourer Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Do you know what the break down of the models are or where the greatest concentration of smarties are sold? Quote
MikeT Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 No, that would only be known to the importer, and they're not sharing!Three Point Motors sold ~10% of all the first generation smarts in Canada, so I imagine that's continuing. Quote

One car more than the number of Mini's that were sold!! The YTD total is almost 2,500 and July 2007 was only 319 (a 57% increase on last July) Quote
MikeT Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Thanks for keeping up on that in my absence! That's a very solid figure, 6000 a year, at that rate! Quote

MikeT Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 (edited) It's getting close to the 450 cdi sales record of 580 in one month.....edit: spelling Edited August 5, 2008 by Mike T Quote
MikeT Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 August was another record (for the month) at 385 smart fortwos sold in Canada. The total to date is 2851 vehicles. The record year for smart in Canada was 2005, with 4080 cars sold. The 451 looks to be set to just break that record! Quote
MikeT Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 Incidentally, the percentage increases from September onward will be ridiculously high compared to 2007, because the sales of the 450 dropped precipitously as the supply basically ran dry during August 2007. Quote
MikeT Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 More trivia: I believe that as of August 31, a total of 3097 451s had been sold in Canada. At that time, only 3408 451s had been imported to Canada. So there was a stock of about 300 cars, which is under one month's supply. Another 135 451s were off-loaded in Halifax yesterday, so the supply just rose...a little bit. Quote
Nextourer Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Thanks for keeping us posted, Mike! Quote
lightey Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 301 smarts sold (in Canada) in September. YTD = 3,152 which is 46% up on 2007 Quote
smartzuuk Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Hey, I was # 301! (well, I was one of them anyway...) Quote
MikeT Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 270 smarts were sold in Canada in October 2008. YTD is 3422.It seems as though the 450 will remain the one-calendar-year sales champion, unless more than 300 cars are sold in each of November and December. Quote
Nextourer Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 and that'll depend on how many 09s they'll sell without the GST rebate. Quote
MikeT Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 177 smarts were sold in Canada during November 2008. Quote
Dang Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Have you noticed smarts seem to sell better in spring/summer? I constantly get questions about what the car is like in the winter, and people seem surprised by my answer. I don't know why people think it's not a winter car. Short of the heater, I think they are fantasic in the snow!Cheers! Dang Quote
MikeT Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 For the record, here are the 450 sales for Novembers past:2004: 2792005: 3702006: 782007: 9In 2007 they had basically no 450s left to sell, so that is an anomaly. The previous year the sales were very weak in the late fall. 177 is good, but not great. Maybe the waiting list will get a little shorter in a couple of months! Quote
MikeT Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Yes, I think the demise of the EcoAuto rebate is badly timed. Quote
MikeT Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 2008 Month: monthly sales / total to date Jan: 236 / 236 Feb: 194 / 430 Mar: 324 / 754 Apr: 359 / 1113 May: 440 / 1553 June: 411 / 1964 July: 502 / 2466 Aug: 385 / 2851 Sept: 301 / 3152 Oct: 270 / 3422 Nov: 177 / 3599 So it seems that the 450's record sales of 4020 cars in a calendar year is safe for a while, probably at least for a couple of years Quote
Francesco Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Still strong compared to November last year! ;)MB's sales in Canada are way up, too, thanks to the new C and ML.Strange how different things are north of the border -- I'm right now discussing the November US figures with friends on another forum. While Honda had the worst month (% change Nov 08 v. Nov 07) in Canada at -33%, Chrysler, BMW and GM were only down somewhat (well, GM down 25% and Chrysler 15%, compared to 41 and 47% in the US). Ford, Toyota, Mazda, MB, smart, MINI, all UP. Quote
smartzuuk Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 In different times, I would say the new GLK would lap up some huge sales.... imagine that puppy in a diesel. Quote
MikeT Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 (edited) And December saw a total of only 150 smarts selling in Canada (down 38.8%, slightly worse than Toyota), for a year to date of 3749 units. Overall it was a good year but not as good as the best year of the 450 cdi. 2008 Month: monthly sales / total to date Jan: 236 / 236 Feb: 194 / 430 Mar: 324 / 754 Apr: 359 / 1113 May: 440 / 1553 June: 411 / 1964 July: 502 / 2466 Aug: 385 / 2851 Sept: 301 / 3152 Oct: 270 / 3422 Nov: 177 / 3599 Dec: 150 / 3749 Edited January 6, 2009 by Mike T Quote
