lightey Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 and they sold 24,622 smarts in the US in 2008 - which is probably more than the life to date sales of all smarts in Canada. Kind of makes your 450 one upmanship look really, really childish. Quote
garthD Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 (edited) Childish? It reads to me like this was a good year for smart sales in Canada, but not the best year ever. One-upmanship?? BTW, on a per capita basis, the 3749 Canadian sales is better than the 24622 sold down South... Edited January 6, 2009 by garthD Quote
lebikerboy Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 And if you remember that the US has ten times the population, Canada's numbers look even better... Quote
MikeT Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 Kind of makes your 450 one upmanship look really, really childish.Well, if reporting that the 450 cdi sold 4020 units in its peak year of 2005 in Canada (versus 3749 for the 451 in 2008) is childish, sign me up for the Treehouse channel Quote
MikeT Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 Correction, make that 4080 smarts sold in Canada for 2005. I should have checked my records before posting the smaller number Quote
deezle Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 However, isn't it true that the sales figures past and present, North and South, are largely dependent on waiting lists/delivery times? If the product was always readily available for purchase on location (or with brief delays), all of the sales figures would be vastly different. My point is that the figures don't so much reflect demand as they do supply. MikeT Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 I would think that is more likely at play in the USA at this point in time....it certainly was a factor in 2005 in Canada too, with the waiting list remaining in place at some dealers through year end (TPM for example). TPM is still short of cars....I would be delighted if the 451 was to exceed 4080 sales in a year but I don't think we're likely to see that for a few years due to economic conditions. Quote
