Oh my! I did it again! Missed another birthday  #5

This year took me in style and comfort to the Micro car show in Madison Georgia in May and then on a 10,000km road trip to western Canada and the USA with no glitches in August.

She's now at 170,000 kms and has never left me stranded! Still love her!

The monthly London meetings still continue and it's a pleasure to get out and enjoy time with my fellow smarties.

I've turned my attention to repair and maintenance of the smart and to that end I have bought a smart with a blown engine -''the black baby''. This winter I hope to rebuild it. Will keep you all posted.

Be happy and enjoy the holidays! Cheers! :beerchug:

Gina's 6th anniversary!

Oh my! It was a hard year for Gina!

A little over a year ago she was vandilized in Toronto. All her panels were ''X''d.

I was hoping to get a factory finish set of panels and I found some. Bob in Owen Sound didn't like the grey and wanted yellow. So I used the black set from my parts car and sent out the damaged set to get repaired and painted yellow.

Over the winter Gina had to endure the indignity of wearing the borrowed black set.

It took much longer than expected to get Ginas old panels repaired and painted. Lucky for us because she got sideswiped in Toronto damaging the drivers door and mirror.

Finally in late spring she got clad out in her ''new'' panels.

Then in July it was off to Kansas city and I got stranded.

Now just before Gina's 6th anniversary she has a new lease on life. A very low mileage engine has been installed and all the ''bugs'' have been worked out. I'm expecting another 15 years service out of her.

The London smarties still gather once a month and have good turnouts as evidenced by the 19 who showed up at the King Edward pub to sample the chefs revenge wings :D

And this year we got to meet Mike T and Sandy in Febuary after they purchased their Canada 1 smart!

All in all a very good smart year!

Wishing you all the best in the coming holidays!

Gina turned 7 yesterday! A much better year for her. Lucky #7

Engine is running fine and her panels got an extra coat of clear coat. Looking good. She's now turned into a fair weather smart because in Febuary I bought G2 to be the work horse.

I still love driving Gina

.I added to the smart family in September by buying Ianjays stream green cabrio. My first ever convertible.

And last week a silver blue passion with engine problems arrived at the house. Many thanks to Leadwing for providing the transportation

.It's been a busy year working on smarts and I'm hoping to see everyone out at our London dinners.

Oh my!!! Time flies!  It's Gina's 8th birthday! :birthday3:

The love affair continues. Right now she's safely tucked away for the winter in an underground heated garage.

She's looking good and runs great! Just passed the 200,000 mark !Thankfully she has had an uneventful year.

No more being vandalized in Toronto or engine problems.

This year she has taken a bit of a back seat while I worked on other smart cars and acquired some other vehicles to add to he fleet ( Canmans 1990 Mazda Miata and Dangs hypermodified 2005 passion)

Happy holidays everyone!

Keep on smarting!

Oh my! Time flies when you're having fun! and I'm still having fun with the smart cars! I love driving the little diesels!

Gina just turned 9 last week and had an uneventful year. She had a few parking lot scratches, but other than that is ok.

In fact I just put her away for the winter in heated underground parking. This year I remembered to remove the battery :D

This was an eventful year because Liz and I were married in June. Liz became an in car driving instructor in the summer and now teaches driving in guess what?  a smart car of course!

My winter smart ,G2, was put into service as the driving instructor car. A second brake was installed and everything is working out.

A few of the parents want their children to learn on ''big'' cars, but that's ok

The majority love the car after they have tried it. Because Liz is using G2 for her business,

I now get to drive Lilbitz for the winter. That's Dangs old smart- loving that! The sound system is top notch and that Webasto heater sure helps in the cold weather

.I continue to help club members with maintenance and repairs. Recently I've been a lit disappointed with the number of smarts with electrical problems. The sam relays are starting to fail and are difficult to repair.

All in all, I am still thrilled with the concept and performance of the smart diesels. Mine are keepers and I plan on driving them for as long as possible.

Happy smarting and enjoy the upcoming holiday season !!

Congratulations to both you and Gina, for putting up with each other for 9 years. Hope you get at least 41 more.My daily driver, L'il Toot , turns 9 in six months. No recent major problems, but I'm holding my breath and speaking VERY nicely to her each time we venture out and return home. The Canada1 is under cover in my garage connected to a battery tender. I start her up regularly and take her out on clear dry days (haven't seen any this month).Looks like I'm also a died-in-the-wool Smart fan. :lover:

WOW!!! 10 years ago I was enjoying my new smart - it was awesome!!! Times change and this fall Gina went to a new home in N Carolina (they made me an offer I couldn't refuse!) :verysad:

Of course smarts remain a huge part of my life. I drive a super modified smart and my wife has a 451( http://clubsmartcar.com/index.php?showtopic=28522)for her business. They are daily drivers.

I'm busy maintaining our smarts and a number of club members. Still loving it!

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday!

It was 13 years ago that I took delivery of my ''Gina" - what an awesome journey!!!

Gina was sold 3 years ago but I was reminded of her because yesterday I worked on a members smart who's panels were from her. Back in 2010 Gina had been vandalized and '' Over the winter I got the damaged panels repaired and painted Hello Yellow and installed on Bob Todds smart in exchange for a set of the original Bay grey panels.'' Bob sold his smart to Mike in Sombra who aptly named her ''tweetie''. I happen do a lot of the repairs to keep ''tweetie'' on the road. A bittersweet moment!

Currently I'm driving a leased 2016 ED which is my daily driver and fits my needs perfectly. When I go out of town I have a 2005 stream green that was a trade in from the local dealer and sold to me over a year ago. In Feb this was the smart that Liz and I drove to St.Johns Nfld. An awesome little diesel!!!

I will most likely return the ED at the end of the lease next August. Hopefully by then I will repair and get Dan Gold old smart on the road.

It's been over 3 years since I retired from the hospital and have kept busy learning and working on smart cars - mostly diesels and travelling. Mind you I do look after my wifes 2012 smart that she uses to teach driving.

It's been a pleasure meeting so many smart owners over the years and socializing!! In fact we still get together the first Tuesday of the month and have dinners together. Our dinner on the 5th of Dec was attended by 14 smarties!!

Enjoy the upcoming holidays!!!

I just missed my anniversary a couple of weeks ago. I think it was November 28th, 2005 I took delivery of my cdi. After an ordering mixup, I ended up with a blue-on-black coupe with sunroof instead of the stream green-on-black glass roof I thought we ordered. Ultimately, I couldn't have been happier with the trade. The blue-on-black was a demo unit from Markham, and had a few km on it, but it had leather and a sunroof, and I ended up liking the blue much more than the stream green, which I think I would have grown tired of. The only thing I lost were the heated mirrors.
