smart142 says hello!

Smart142 is the "Man"  when it comes to Smart Cars...imho....and from what I have read here on this site.  Just this thread alone will explain to you anything that you might need to know about his capabilities with anything regarding Smarts.  imho.
I bought his 2005 lime green smart he took out to St John's and have had zero issues with it at all. Fantastic little gem of a car!  I drive it to Ottawa from Pefferlaw,an hour north of Toronto, whenever I can, it's a solid reliable machine...and the fact  it was owned and aventure tested by the GURU of Smart Cars is why I bought it! I plan on driving her out west next summer then up to the Arctic Ocean....yes I know insane...lol...but I'm going...! It's the last coast or Oceam that I haven't put my toes into yet.

Glenn from what I have seen and heard from this community is the go to guy....period.....no question.....and he's actually a very nice genuine person.....unlike most guru's when you meet them from other areas of interest.  Most are fed up with the constant barage of questions and pleeds for help  from their communities...but Glenn doesn't seem to fit this mold at all.       Strange....very strange...?

So anyone who is questionable about his abilities I'd say relax and be assured he knows what he's doing and talking about....

That wasn't my experience with Smart142 (aka Glenn) at all. He reached out to me using private message and solicited his nameless hidden repair shop to me and when I asked him a few reasonable questions before I would agree to meet a stranger at a remote unmarked warehouse he told me he was tired of trying to sell himself to me and told me to go to a Mercedes dealer instead. Talk about RUDE!

There have been many testimonials about Glenn.  Many can be found in this thread alone. Ask anyone who has dealt with him in person and you will see that he is genuine.  You were looking for help in your original post and at least 4 people from this site have suggested him.

Personally, if I were you, I would have agreed to meet at a local Timmies with other fellow members if you were so skeptical of his sincerity.  Those of us who know him, know he is a good person.  Frankly, I think the "nameless hidden repair shop" issue has been answered several times in this thread.  He rents space in a warehouse to keep costs down so he can pass the savings on to customers and perform a needed service to diesel owning smart car people.  He doesn't need to do this.  He does it because it is a passion of his to help others.

If you weren't willing to accept what has been said a number of times in this thread alone, then I can fully understand his suggestion to go to a Mercedes dealer.  You are obviously not willing to listen to the glowing reviews of former and current customers,  so his suggestion for you to seek help elsewhere is something I would have also suggested if the same situation existed for me.

IMHO,...and that is all it is......any fit mechanically inclined person can and should be able to change your brakes, and change you oil and filter for a reasonable price, if Glenn is too far for you which I can fully understand as he's 3 hours away from me.......there has to be a mechanic close to you. I can do these few things easily also, but I am also an hour away and probably charge what Glenn does from what he has told me....I am NOT looking to take any business from Glenn at all, just offering you a second option. But you do not know me either, so the same issues will come into your mind and being a woman I fully understand this.  In today's age you must be 100% sure about where it is you are going. I have a 22 year old daughter and fully get this issue.  The offer is open, brakes and an oil  change and anything else mechanical, I do not work on computers etc so for that you must either pay up at a dealership or go to someone very knowledgable such as Glenn and start a relationship with his as your mechanic.
Again Glenn is the man for Smart Cars, I bought mine from him simply because of his knowledge of the cars and knew it would be a good car. Compared to buying one from the local paper so to speak.   For that I drove the crazy distance to look and buy on the spot his car, then drove back the next day to pick her up. He was everything everyone has said about him and more.  I will and do highly recommend him and will for sure be dealing with him in the future.

SmartGal... would you feel better if 6 or 7 of us met you at Glenn’s shop..... for security?

He’s retired, bought one of the first Smarts that came to Canada in 2005, and developed a passion for the little cars.

When he retired from the medical profession, he started doing basic repairs to Smart cars.

He has since become comfortably busy with the volume of recommended business from return customers.

Word-of-mouth is the best advertising.  I take all my 3 Smart cars to Glenn.

He doesn’t need a flashy sign or customer waiting room.  You do that to increase business, expand and increase prices.

All that’s needed is a clean, dry garage with a hoist, the right tools to do the jobs you do, and a passion to keep going.

SmartGal..... I also suggest you take your service work to Mercedes in Toronto.

Youll pay a lot more but you’ll have a huge company to support.

Sounds like this is what you need, because I doubt if you’ll ever be satisfied with anything less.

Glenn seems busy enough without your service issues.

I’m kinda proud of Glenn for only telling you to go to..... Mercedes.

OMG!!!!!   It's been 15 years to the day when I received my first smart!!

and what a trip it's been! There was so much enthusiasm when the smart was first introduced!

I'm happy to say that I still love driving my diesel smart after all these years.

My current smart was owned by Gary - smart65 - who was also one of the originals.

It is with sadness and a heavy heart to say that he passed away earlier in the year. Gary's wife Judine wanted his smart to go to a good home and I was the very lucky recipient. That smart was Gary's baby and it was always garaged, meticulously maintained and every imaginable mod was added.

In fact G65, as I call her, was just tucked away for the winter.

I'm also still helping members keep their smarts on the road. Thank you for your support!

It has been great to meet so many enthusiasts!

Cheers everyone!  :beerchug:

ps. this week I resuscitated a smart that had been sitting outside for 3 years. Talk about rusty!!!

alternator, starter, R rear bearing, front spring, and L rear axle had to be replaced

,      and that's for starters

I remember it well, it was three weeks before we got ours and I was so jealous!

On the other hand, the waiting list at my dealer was 500 long and we were not at the top of that list.  Ours was a factory order....we were offered various "spec" cars starting in late September but we held out and I'm glad we did.

It's been over 16 years since my smart journey started. My daily driver is still G65!  I will continue to have smarts as long as humanly possible!

Last year I continued to maintain my own smart and assisted many clubsmartcar members!

2020 was to say the least a very different year, The London members did not have any monthly meets starting in March!

I really miss those meets!

2021 looks to be even different! The owner of the warehouse where my shop is located told me that would like to see me vacate by the spring as he has found new tenants.

So I have a lot of parts to get rid of in the next 3 months! I've parted out at least 6 450's and 2 451's.

If you need anything smart related feel free to contact me as prices will be more that reasonable.

Looks to be a transitional year for me!

It was 17 years ago that I got my first smart car and I still love them!!!

Back then Chretiens Liberal government had the one tonne challenge to reduce carbon emissions. Unfortunately most people took to driving pickups and suv's. All the smart car drivers can be proud to say that they made an effort to meet that challenge!!!

Here's hoping that 2022 will be the year that the pandemic ends! Until then get vaccinated and keep wearing a mask in public!

WOW!!!

Another year flies by and a smart car is still my daily diver after 19 years!  My current smart was owned and modified by Rod from nearby Dorchester.

Unfortunately health issues forced him to sell and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy this liitle gem. With only 53,000 kms I'm hoping to get at least another decade out of her!

My shop is still open and I try to help the smart car people out there. However my availability is limited due to family and health concerns. And I have a growing passion for my model T.

Enjoy the upcoming holidays with family and friends!!!

   Cheers! :beerchug:
