Doozy Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Hi my wife and I are going to be driving from Toronto to Huntsville this Saturday and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a leisurely route. Something that doesn't involve multi lane expressways with a side of road rage. Ideally something with speed limits in the 80-90km/h range and scenic views.I'll be driving from Montreal to Toronto on Friday, taking hwy 2, the parkway, Prince Edward County etc, takes me a good 7 hours but it is a wonderful drive. From Huntsville back to Montreal we will go via Algonquin park and Ottawa. Many thanks, Mark in Montreal Quote
Guest kwaldron Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 A little more info would help with suggestions.Where in Toronto will you be starting from? What time do you expect to leave. Both are important to know asa) Toronto is very large and your starting point may suggest an obvious routeB) Saturday morning drive up north from Toronto is pretty much guaranteed to include very busy roads, some worse than others.on a good day Toronto to Huntsville is somewhere in the 2.5-3 hour range of driving depending on where you start. How long a drive would you like?I can certainly give you the back roads route if you would like. Quote

It's a ver y nice drive. You might want to stop in Bowling Green to see the Corvette plant and meseum. There is a hotel with a mom and pop's restrauant in front of it (Jerry's, I think) that is quite good for the price.Just south of Nashville, you need to take the detour to Lynchburg to see the Jack Daniel's place. The town is really neat.Mike Quote
Guest kwaldron Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 For routing purpose I'll assume you meant Huntsville, ON. Quote
spinner Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Going north from Toronto, take Hwy. 27. Suggestion: Take Major Mackenzie Drive from Hwy 400 to Kleinburg. Alternately, take Hwy. 11, but only after Newmarket.Going north from Barrie, take Shanty Bay Road towards Orillia. If you get lost, just find Hwy. 11 and continue. I think it gets more scenic after Washago. If you have some time, try to stop and watch the locks at Severn Bridge. Quote
MikeDCop Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I assumed it was Alabama too.....oops.....but if he ever does come to Huntsville, Alabama...he now knows which way to go, and a few places to visit.Mike Quote
Guest kwaldron Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I assumed it was Alabama too.....He did say he was going home by way of Algonquin, which sort of pegged it for me. Quote
