For your consideration... an Open Source PHP Gallery

Can it integrate with IPB (the forum software) though? A gallery isn't as useful when it requires everyone to set up another account just to upload photos; integration makes things easier for CsC members as they'd only have to log into CsC once and have access to both the forum and the gallery.

Though if we wanted a gallery for members to post photos to that did require a separate login, I could just as easily install a gallery on one of my sites and sidestep the issue of hosting photos on the CsC server. It's another option, I guess. Easier on the server/bandwidth, slightly harder on the members. I'd be willing to donate the storage and bandwidth for that, though, if people wanted that instead.

Good - now we are getting discussion going - yep - what ever the solution it has to fit under the current umbrella to a degree - we have limited resources for support so technology that fits is probably better then having a totally new system. And people being people - if it takes too much time/effort - forget about it - can be a great technical idea but has to fit the workflow concepts people expect. So unless we could do a pass through credential thing - entering another user id would probably not fly.So what is there out there that fits in with IPB (sorry not my forte') - we can look at 3 scenarios including do nothing, do an IPB solution, and other. Standard proposal stuff - should include some estimates of time/money/space required.Cheers,Cameron

Exactly. That's why I didn't just set up a new site for smart car photos originally, and then just offer it up as a place for CsC members to store their smart car images online and share them here. I know how often that one extra required click can deter people, and to create a whole new account? Forget it. Some people would, of course, but lots of people would just not bother as they already have a Flickr/Picasa/Photobucket account. Which, of course, defeats the purpose of a centralized gallery

I think there's a few gallery options that work with IPB listed in this thread and the original one in the General forum. I'll do a compilation/proposal when I get a chance, though this is a Production week at work for me so it's pretty hectic.

Thanks Kitty,I am stuck in an non-operations role right now but did years of it so I know how it goes. Simple is good! Heck even expecting someone to read the header information sometimes is a reach - let alone anysort of less than intuitive instructions.Cheers,Cameron

Hi Kitty - PM me and I will do the pitch to the BOD - otherwise we will get a 5 way discussion going - wind up talking about piston gaps instead of galleries - and lose focus.Once the BOD chips the edges off we can do the pitch to the rest of the community.Sorry for the delay in responding - too many things going on the last while - as soon as I figure out how to get an android to do some stuff for me I will be laughing - or will the android be laughing and me doing the stuff - and what about piston ring gaps - whoops - see what I mean.Cheers,Cameron

I hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but as far as outsourcing photos for posting on our site ---- I would not want to see more of this, where the photos become a black hole, probably without the knowledge of the original poster.

That is because dieselkiki is a "New Member" and so was never given the option of uploading the photos directly to this site. We need to ensure that people with more than one or two posts in good standing become Regular Members ASAP so this doesn't happen as often, though a Regular Member can still use remote hosting for photos.

Well I never heard back - so I am assuming it is a work in progress. :worried: The gallery would be nice but we have some other major issues with the site that need some clean up first (like making stuff easier to find). I will do some readin' up on the Forum software when I get a chance too - see what can be made to work. Other aspect is the size hit - our hosting is provided as a courtesy and I don't want to be an ungracious guest.Cheers,Cameron

Thanks Cameron! It would be nice to have a photo gallery, both to see each other's smarties and to promote the marque. Is there any way one could download the pics that show up at the top of the home page? Many are worthy of a desktop screensaver! Also, who is the webmaster that puts those pics there?Thx,
