Dennis
Even rear end damage doesn't always wreck the engine. There was one at Bell City Auto in Brantford, ON that that had been written off. They removed the engine and shipped it to Texas. You might be shocked by the cost of an engine. Most recyclers go by a percentage of new value. booneylander
Here's an article link to go with the first picture: http://news.motorbiker.org/blogs.nsf/dx/01...63759MWELCA.htm 2.5L/100km and an optional 50L tank, now THAT would be cool, 2000km/tank. Guest visser
I found an engine alone from a wrecker here in toronto... 2006 with 10k for $3000. My current bike is nowhere near as pretty or as performance orientated as that German bike posted... it is a Royal Enfield that basically uses a generator motor. My top speed is only about 90kph, which is fine for the back roads, but I only consume 1 litre for every 60km, Next step is to get a custom fuel tank that is split... one side for veggie oil, the other for diesel - It might be the first dual-tank biodiesel bike in Ontario... 100MPGUS
I have the same idea in mind. I think the engine and computer along with the transmission on the right bike will get over 100 US MPG. Smartzuuk got 105 with the car attached! Speedie
There is a fellow in Holland (think it is Holland) that did the conversion - not exactly Ducati type speed but it looked pretty good - tank needs a visit from Mr. Grinder and Ms. Polisher though.about 1/2 way down the page -BMW Smart Bike Diesel smart bike Andreas Goschel has built this machine from a 1994 BMW and chosen to fit it with an 800cc Diesel Smart engine.Make sure you get the electronics with the engine - or you will have a heck of a time - also you might want to talk with Reg in Calgary or FastEddy regarding getting the ECU map tweaked - few things different on a bike. Vibration control is the big issue - mind you the CDI is pretty smooth for a diesel.Apparently there is a place in the States (Oregon?) turning out diesel bikes - problem is the US military is grabbing all they can for scout bikes in Iraq.Cheers,Cameron
booneylander
I think you are talking about the Kawasaki KLR650 with the diesel conversion?
booneylander
Hey guys, I stumbled upon this today and thought it was an excellent page with tons of good info. And it looks like he's using the Yanmar L-100 that I was planing on getting (although he's using a chinese copy) for my diesel bike project. http://www.altmann.haan.de/riding_on_salad_oil/default.htm Edited September 4, 2008 by booneylander
