Buzz Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 (edited) I just needed that little extra carrying ability. Not so much for space but for dirty/smelly stuff I don't want inside but don't really need to drive my full size truck for. Like taking the chainsaw in for servicing or carrying a 5gal of gas to the cottage. The floor has 3/4 plywood for extra strength (on the inside so it stays clean and dry). I didn't get too worried about covering the plate. I see hundreds of SUV's and Minivan's on the way to the cottage that have their plates covered by bike racks or cargo carriers. Why should we be any different! Edited February 24, 2009 by Buzz Quote

Why should we be any different! The smart IS different - an attention-getter on the road, no doubt. I have a mod on the go similar to this and the plate issue concerns me. Be sure to post after you get tagged, won't you? ;)Addendum: I wonder if there is a shallower box?B Edited February 24, 2009 by bilgladstone Quote
The Rog Man Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 (edited) I am wondering about the legalities of the red beacon on the roof?Depends on where yer located of coarse but when you get pulled over for the plate the cop is liable to get ya good???aswell as the overhang of the storage box probably has guidelines for that too?Just talking out loud here, I'm not dissin ya .i think the box is a great idea, it would just sukk for a bored cop too let ya have it is all?? MikeT Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Covering the plate is illegal. You should have a secondary mount on the box.... Quote
Tardis Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I like it especially for smelly light stuff. like you said. not for heavy loads. but driving around with such a unique vehicle does catch the attention of the law.Is there any way you can securely mount the license on the rack above the box? It's ashame when you see so many vehcles driving around with unreadable plates due to foggy plastic and grime but it is against the law any way. and you will get noticed eventually. Especially when they ar doing one of those safety blitzes on the way to cottage country.Keep us posted. Good idea.Karen Quote
Buzz Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 Oh no doubt if I got a sticky cop I could get dinged, but they seem pretty cool round these parts (Rural Eastern Ontario).Usually if I get stopped at a RIDE check they start asking about the car or If they can get High speed internet at their house! The Light on the roof is amber same as any private snow plow truck would use. Legal and even recommended for vehicles that move slow or make frequent stops on the road like mail delivery. I stop at the end of driveways a lot when surveying homes for Wireless Internet Service.I considered mounting the plate on the rack above the box as Tardis suggested. If I get ambitious I may do that. Quote
NJV Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Cool. Looks a lot like mine, but I used a smaller box. How is it attached to the rack? Quote
