MikeT
You should charge the BCAA average, which is over 50 cents per km. By that standard, my car was dirt cheap to run!
MikeT
Ack, the little green and black car's 8th anniversary passed with nary a word from me. Now that it's gone (and I don't have a free VIN checker access anymore so I don't know if it's being rebuilt), the car is seemingly part of the distant past. So sad. She was a good little car. MikeT
12th anniversary of smart ownership today. RIP, WMEAK00F95J175000.
MikeT
Missed the 13th anniversary nearly 6 months back but 14 is coming up soon. And 9th for the Canada 1, which is still fun more than 13 years into my smart cdi era. And it's damn near 16 years, or will be in July, since we placed our speculative $500 pre-order at TPM Victoria. MikeT
Today we got two of these: one for the Mercedes B 200 we bought new in 2007, that today is over 260,000 km. They also sent a second one as a sort of posthumous recognition for Rana smartii, our dearly departed green and black pulse cabriolet that was written off around 2000 km short of 250K km. Nice! Originally M-B Canada said smarts were not eligible..... Edited July 27, 2018 by MikeT km correction
MikeT
14 years ago today we got Rana smartii, the green on black pulse that died in a collision in 2012. Edited January 8, 2019 by MikeT
MikeT
Ah well, I missed the 15th anniversary of the car that's been gone since November 2012. In any case, it's fifteen plus years of solid smart ownership, uninterrupted, for me. Not the 39 years I've had uninterrupted with Peugeot, but nothing will catch up in my lifetime.
Chopper
I'm currently 29 years with the same Yamaha. If I eat healthily and exercise I could still make 80 years with it!
Leadwing
I've had the same 1989 Honda Civic for over 30 years and the 35th Honda Gold Wing produced for over 45 years.
Chopper
If it counts, I've owned one of my bicycles since 1983, 37 years ago. The other 8 are much newer.

darren
Come to think of it, I think my bicycle (1997 Giant ATX840) might be one of the oldest possessions I have and still use. (I do also have some kitchen knives and a cutting board that date back to 1990/91 or so, and a guitar that I built in 1988.) Many parts of the bike have been slowly upgraded and/or replaced over the years, but the frame, fork, rims and derailleurs are still all original. 1983JZR3W
I still have a "Members Only" jacket from 1983, but I try not to wear it daily......
MikeT
I missed the 16th anniversary of the green/black pulse yesterday. So I've owned at least one smart for sixteen years and a day. The only one left is in storage in my garage for now but I will be keeping it.

Wild!
The oldest thing that I kept is my 1986 Honda Helix.
Willys
The oldest thing I kept simply due to sentimental reasons was the 10 speed bicycle my grand mother bought me when I was 10.....I kept that until about 15 years ago. I hadn't ridden it for decades many many decades.....a CCM costing around $100 at the time. I kept moving it and moving it every time we moved.....I simply drew the line one day when I had 3 other bicycles and said that's long enough. I have one bicycle left and that was bought last winter by the wife, a fat tired cheap Shimano from Crappy Tire when on sale. She heard i was semi interested in one and it showed up for Christmas...! I will admit you can ride them over just about any surface and it doesn't effect riding at all. Normally I throw stuff away when I stop using it....I have way too much stuff. MikeT
Sandy's missing the smart. So I guess that mens it nudges back onto the "to do" list for 2022. Clutch issue, original suspension (30,000 km) will be reinstalled because the BRABUS set is clapped out, new engine mounts. Here was the car back when she was on the road, with my daughter Jenn driving.
MikeT
17 years ago today we finally got our first smart! Here it was on delivery day: January 8, 2005. After having been on a waiting list since May 2002, we had thought that day would never come....
MikeT
Tonight the White BRABUS Canada 1 finally hit 160,000 km, nearly 16 years after she was built. A little over 10,000 km/year.
MikeT
She heads into Mercedes Nanaimo the week of August 19th for a mid-life refit. Hard to believe that she's 18 years old now! Putting original springs and dampers back in, new engine mounts, A-arms, A/C repair, fix a whining noise and a couple of other things. On the way to 190K km.... Damn, that may cost you the same cost of the original purchase price!!!! I will say, after doing all that work it should drive like a new car, mine does.....the difference is amazing! The beater's days are very short now...lol.
MikeT
A couple grand in labour; I'd rather pay that than muck around with a daily driver. I did the daily driver maintenance thing for a couple of decades, that was more than enough!
