MikeT Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Sounds interesting. The USA/CDN smart 451 has the same compression ratio as the European 451 Turbos (10:1, so in theory a well engineered system would work OK. Quote

When ordering a turbo kit we can have it set up for whatever psi of boost, rwhp, torque you desire and have the computer that comes with the kit tune to that. Quote

F1 these days are in the 300 HP/L range (according to a friend of mine who works as an Engineer for RedBull Racing) and that's naturally aspirated! I have built many turbo and supercharged cars that are in the 250 HP/L range and run problem free for years.Are there any of these cars running around Ontario yet? Would be impressive to check out. Speedie Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Those Llamas had better be sniffing nitrous oxide - had a run in a Euro turbo with only 80 some HP - that was interesting - I can only imagine what a full on 150 hp would be like - provided you could keep it pointed in the right direction and layed in a Danforth anchor to stop quickly.Better lay in a supply of transmissions, clutches, drive shafts and spare engines though - I kinda suspect longevity might be compromised a bit.Ideal Q ship car though - Make sure you dye your hair grey - wear a hat and stick a pipe in your mouth just to complete the delussion - as you leave some snotty Audi or BMW driver gasping at the lights.Cheers,Cameron Quote
booneylander Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 (edited) Even with 150hp, and even if you could update the transmission software so it was shifting brutally fast, while the car might feel "quick" from the driver's seat, it would still probably only run a ~15 second 1/4 mile... which won't even keep up to an Acura RSX (not really a "fast" car either). Even if you were running some SERIOUS suspension and tires, I still don't think you could get the thing to handle as well as a "normal" car.... that's why I ask what the competition is, if you're at the track with a bunch of 16 year olds driving their mom's automatic corolla, then maybe you'd stand a chance at a fastest lap time, but if you were on track with serious cars and drivers (RX8s, WRX STIs, S2000s, M3s... etc), you wouldn't have a hope in heck...I had my stock 450 on track against a stock Mazda 3 automatic, and I was losing probably 20seconds/lap on a 4km course, it was just brutal. An extra 100hp might have gained me 5 seconds a lap on the track we were running... if that... but you just can't get any real cornering speed out of a car with such a narrow track and short wheelbase... Must be entertaining to drive....on the gas for 0.5 secs..shift...wait 5 secs....on the gas for 0.5 secs..shift..wait 5 secs.............. A fellow racer friend of mine had his stock 450 up at Mosport on a lapping day. It was raining, and most of the newbie drivers were going quite slow as Mosport requires some big b@lls to drive fast, ESPECIALLY in the rain. He saw guys in Corvettes and BMW's and Subarus out there doing 3 minute laps.... my friend says...."I can drive my damn smart faster than that" So he went out and did, cracking off sub 3 minute laps in the wet! See a lap time comparison against an N/A smart with the same suspension/tire mods (if any) as the turbo car. I wonder what they're doing for the clutch to hold a 100% increase in torque... Quote

adkinsperformance Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 yes we have two videos up of one night at the track where we ran a 58 seconds and with the fastest lap time of the night being a 47 seconds by a built rx7. that night the car was only pushing 90 horsepower at the wheels. so this next week all the tuning will be complete and will be back at the tracks so see what times we get make 150. so you will have the dyno charts and videos some time this next week Quote

I'm not trying to say I don't think you can make 150hp, or that you can make the car faster. I just don't like people that make fantastic claims like "our smart car can outrun corvettes" without a significant amount of proof to back those claims up. It misleads people, and hurts other companies that are making quality products for the car. Sorry to say, but an 11 second gap on a 47 second lap time, while it doesn't sound too big, is a tremendous gap. If you were running a 30 lap SPRINT race against that RX7, you'd have been down 6 laps by the end of the race. I have no idea what this track looks like (whether it's a handling track or a high speed track, an oval or a road course, or anything) so I have no idea what affect on your laptime 60hp might have, but hopefully we'll find out.So my aplologies again if I'm coming off like an ass, but I come from a world where you prove that kind of performance behind closed doors many times over before EVER even coming close to making that sort of claim. A world where making that sort of claim and not being able to back it up would mean that no-one would ever buy product from me ever again. Edited May 28, 2009 by booneylander Quote

Over half the products out there on the market claim a certain hp gain when it has never even been on the dyno but I guaranty those numbers its just got to get a couple more little things worked out and we will have all the charts and videos to back it.
