John & Angela Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 We'll we are heading south for Palm Springs and Mexico in about 7 weeks so we'll be wanting to cover the smarts for the winter. What is a good source, type, price etc. Preferably Canadian source to avoid the whole brokerage thing. Gracias de antemano. (Thanks in advance Quote
MikeT Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 This is for CDN winter protection, or Mexican winter protection?PS: I'll be in Spain in 4 weeks! Quote

MikeT Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 No gracias! A friend and I are going to a Parador on the Costa Brave for a couple of days. Quick vacation, then back into France and Germany. Quote
John & Angela Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 So any suggestions for a car cover? Quote
John & Angela Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 Nope. Its a cover or open to the elements which I would rather not do with the rag tops. I have had limited success with googling for this other than generic stuff which will be too big. Quote
John & Angela Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 I wonder if Mercedez in Kelowna would have them. I'll give them a call today. Quote
ARTZ Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Try here www.smartMadness.com. This guy just started posting on our website; he is based in California but has a larger selection than the dealer would have. Some cost more than others, based on the quality of material. smartieParts.com has one indoor one in stock. Quote
NJV Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Do you have a driveway? If so, how about one of those portable cover things? A 10 by 20 foot cover would protect both cars. Most of them come with side walls and such. Quote

ARTZ Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 42Kruizer had one for his car (until he sold his car). I thought it was well made and it fit his car quite nicely. Quote
Catherine Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 I bought my car cover in the winter of 2005 direct from the MB dealership. It was about $120 Canadian. It is a silvery fabric with a fleecy underside, and a draw string around the bottom.I use it when I know there is a snow coming, or when there is freezing rain in the forecast. While everyone else is scraping away, I simply pull of the cover, shake it out and drive away. The instructions say if you are going to use it to cover the car for long-term storage (i.e. while away for several months) you should place something between the cover and the car to prevent it from rubbing back and forth if it is outside. The draw string pulls somewhat tight, but if I was using it to cover the car for any real length of time I would put some grommets in it and then hook some bungie cords through the grommets and onto the wheel axel, to make sure it stays put and does not get blown off in a stong wind. lebikerboy Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 We've been using a smart barn for two years and I'm quite impressed how well it survived especially after last winter.I power washed it this year to get rid of the green gunge. Looks fine. Quote
