brd Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 The benefits demonstrated by the NA 451 remap are so weak that the nominal risk to your warranty is not justifiable, nor is the expenditure of even a few hundred dollars, in my view. But go for it if you want, it makes no difference to us.....Well thanks for your no experience based opinion! The INMotion remap gives a 10HP or 14% gain. Not too shabby from my perspective. Its also the lowest cost option which also gives the MOST HP gain as compared to almost all of those mentioned by others e.g. "intakes, headers, exhausts, nitrous." The only option that does better is the custom turbo which costs 10 to 15 times as much and for sure terminates your warranty. Again, does anybody else out there actually have experience with a 451 remap? Quote
Coast Steve Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I don't as I have the 450 model, but if there was a performance Powerbox you could just plug in unplug at dealer time that would be my choice.Just my 2 cents, brd.Good luck,Steve Quote
Huronlad Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Have you put this question to the thousands of 451 owners on smart car of America?Does INMotion guarantee a 10HP increase, under what conditions were they able to achieve these results? Quote

I wonder if anybody else has? Quote
lebikerboy Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 The only chip tuning modules for gasoline engines that I've seen are all for turbo-charged engines... Quote
Coast Steve Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Well my German is a little weak, but this looks interesting for you. (Guess it's a copy and paste link) Steve http://cgi.ebay.de/SMART-Chiptuning-Typ-45...=item53dde146f1 Quote
pghjake Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 The INMotion 10% increase claims are based on their results with EU non-turbo gassers. I don't have a transcript of my conversation with the gentleman who actually does the remap for INMotion Tuning USA, but the remap code is from Germany specifically written for the US Mitsubishi powered smart 451. MikeT Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 The EC version of the Mitsu 451 has an 11:1 CR instead of our 10:1. Quote

MikeT Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 The power ratings are basically identical so it's probably going to mean that the benefits to be derived from a remap would be a bit more pronounced in the car with the higher compression ratio. Quote
Guest dynotronics1 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Except that, as pointed out many many times, on a non-turbocharged engine -- gas OR diesel -- a remap achieves little -- or none -- of your list above. There is a very fundamental reason why remaps are offered for so few naturally-aspirated cars anywhere in the world. And that is: cost-to-benefit ratio, which is extremely high. Can't you see we're trying to be helpful here, and not antagonistic? You are getting a LOT of helpful advice here, and an explanation as to why virtually NOBODY has "any experience with 451 remaps" in North America.Sorry to jump in here, but I need to correct you on a few points. We have quite a bit of experence tuning the 451 here in the states. Our reflash is good for 8-12 hp at the wheels, and a huge (well for a smart anyway) increase of tq under the curve. The shifting is vastly improved, and the cars do get better fuel milage(if you can keep your foot off the floor and a grin off your face). Our tunes are done inhouse, and are based on load cell chassis dyno and datalogging work.Yes a turbo would be cool, and we do have one of those here also, but the NA cars are a hoot to drive with a simple reflash!.................d Quote
MikeT Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Well that is good news. Not huge gains but not too bad all the same. Imagine what you could do with a turbocharged remap! Quote
Guest jmac36 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Well that is good news. Not huge gains but not too bad all the same. Imagine what you could do with a turbocharged remap!Hello everyone, newbie here! I stumbled across this forum in my search to find anything about reflashing the 08 us smart for two that I bought a few weeks ago. The car ia a lot of fun to drive, but the shifting and the performance suck. I have an AMG MB that I had reflashed so I thought I could find more online.Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has any experence with this set up? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...K%3AMESELX%3AIThope its ok to post links! Please let me know what you think. I talked to the owner, and he seems very knowedgeable. I'm very tempted as he is offering a 100% money back guarantee...... Please let me know if this is good or bad. Thanks Quote
