planedriver Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 I like black rims on most cars. When I got my Smart I had and idea on how it was going to look. I bought the OEM Winter Tire Kit and had the installed from day one, so my OEM Alloys never saw the road. Took them to a powder coating place and for around $300 CDN I have my new look. All in all I am satisfied with the job. Not 100% say (95%)but the fronts look great. The front grill trim will be painted the same metallic matte as the mirrors and inside stuff. Cheers Quote

I really like the look of the low profile tires on cars so when black wheels are mounted with black tires it blurs the transition from wheel to tire. A pin stripe at the edge of the wheel or a polished lip once again separates the two and I am happy again. Quote

Thats cool to since a 06/07 can be had for $40K with a 80K Cert used warrantee. Still The smart will be with me for many years. Heres a question for you though.Audi A4 or C class?Our next family car once the Hondas gone with be ether one. So Far I'm leaning toward the Audi. I don t need Diesel. Just like the 4 Cyl and the Manual Tranny. Quote
gordo.bernard Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I forgot where I saw it, but there is a different coloured vinyl ring that installs between the rim and the tire to give you that look and not be permanent. It looked similar to vinyl upholstery piping. The tire would be deflated and the bead broken and then the "piping" was tucked in and re inflated. And if you go with vinyl pin-striping rather than paint, cover the stripe with something like clear nail polish, especially where the ends join/overlap. Otherwise, they will tend to come loose and look really shabby. [voice of experience] And, gordo, I saw those edge rings some place and it's killing me that I can't find them again!!!! There are a lot of 911 owners who only race Caymans. Price has nothing to do with it. If they put the 911 power plant in the Caymen you would see them cost a lot more but they never will because the 911 would get smoked and piss off way to many folks. Ever drivin a 1980's 911? they didn't call them stock broker killers for nothing. The car has a pendulum it its ass. Dam Sexy too though. Yes, a couple even own late 70's early 80's stock broker killers LOL...It just seems too much of a compromise. Porsche wanted a car that is half way between the boxster and the 911, so they built this, and it is nearly exactly half way between the two in every measure. Kinda like it was built by the bean-counters, not a passionate desginer. It is a good thing people like this car, because then less people will buy 911's and it will bring down the price of the 911's.. :DEdit: I also noticed every pic you posted has black rims as well.....well played.
