Hello everyone,From time to time my smart is emitting a beeping alarm from the dash, usually after shutting off and getting ready to leave the car. Same one that signals "seatbelt". Stays on for no reason. Can get it to stop by reinserting key, turning it, then taking the key out again. Sometimes. It often takes a few tries. Can actually walk away from the car and it's faintly beeping. Have waited as long as five minutes without it shutting off. Has done the same thing after starting, buckling belt and driving away. It keeps it up until I play the key game again. No doors are ajar, the hatch is securely closed. There isn't any reason for it to be sounding but there it is. Thankfully it doesn't do it too often but it is becoming more frequent. I'm afraid it'll run down the battery eventually if it doesn't stop. Any ideas on how I locate the little beeper and perhaps kill it?Thanks,Badwolf (aka Sanford Blackwell)

This happens to me occasionally when I'm too quick in removing the key. I just put the key back in, set the starter switch to position 1 momentarily, then remove the key again. Maybe your computer is a bit more sensitive.

This happens in my car as well; a 2010 Passion. Before the engine is turned on the seatbelt alarm goes off, if it isn't buckled, when the key is turned to the Accessory position. I think that something may going odd with the system when the engine is shut down, causing the key to pass through the Accessory position, and the seatbelt is unlocked at approximately the same time. This seemed to be what happened the last time I had the beeping. Though I've tried a few experiments with the sequence to see if I can trigger it and so far I've not found a specific timing of actions that causes the alarm to go off.. so perhaps my hypothesis is incorrect. On the plus side it is really easy to stop it by just turning the key to Accessory and then back off again. :)

I've made many, many attempts over the past few weeks to set off the beeping, by switching the engine off while at the same time unbuckling my seat belt. No success. The other day it finally went off, but this was a few seconds after I'd unbuckled my seat belt and the key was still in the ignition. My hypothesis appears to be incorrect; the infrequent constant beeping at engine switch off doesn't seem to have anything to do with the seat belt or removing the key too quickly.

I'm on my second 451 and this is just one of the quirks that you'll have to live with. As mentioned in the other posts, simply insert key, turn to the on position, then back to off and voila, beeping is gone. I've tried to figure out what sets off the beeping, but have since given up.
