Hello!

I've been reading a lot of the posts recently, basically ever since I put my car on order. I initally found a BB over in the UK, but it seemed a little bit far away, so I started looking again and found this site (YAY!!!). I've probably read over a thousand posts already (mostly on performance and tuning!), which has given me a nice list of things to do to the car. Heh heh heh... It'll be a Red on Black Pulse coupe with the all-weather floor mats, heated leather seats, the electrially heated mirrors, cup holder (for my cell phone or a bottle of water since I don't drink coffee...), the upgraded stereo package, the extra pods (clock and tachometer... did I spell that right?), the combined filter (asthma somethimes gets really bad, especially in the spring and summer, I'm just hoping this helps :handtalk: ), the temp gauge, and... umm... not much else. ANYWAYS...

I'm really excited to be getting one of these sweet machines (just ask my sales dude, I called him twice today and he doesn't even have my PO number yet! lol), and to be part of this community! The reason why I even decided to join is because I've seen so many good discussion so far, and so many good people (or so it seems... hmmmmm...) - oh, and that little fact of me having one of these on order (it's been just under a month since I gave them the rest of my downpayment - sounds like I have about 5 months of waiting left). I'm sure we'll be seeing lots of each other as time marches on!

Thanks!

That is going to be a great looking car! Your research has paid off-all good choices!

You are going to love those heated seats! :drive:

Thanks!

I figured, you know, driving around a hunk-o-junk for the rest of winter (or until the car comes in) will make me love those heated seats even more! Mmmmmmm... leather! That reminds me: quick question - what leather care product does everyone recommend? I've not had leather before, but I know some people who do (I'll take their suggestions into account as well), and I really want it to stay wicked for a long long time...

I'm much too excited. I shouldn't have been reading Duck's posts about his greuling wait! (At least it seems to be over now! Lucky Duck!)

BTW: whenever I see one, I always say: SmartCar!! and point and have a great big smile on my face... (crazy? nooo... not me, not ever! HA HA HA) I'm so excited I have to make so many corrections to my spelling before I post this! LOL (I hope I caught them all...)

(Must... find ... avatar... (sounds like a weekend project))

Welcome to the club DCS, you will love your Smart, its not easy waiting for it to arrive, mine took 3 months, and love every little bit of it. Those heated leather seats are fantastic, they don`t take long to heat up, that is for sure.Especially now, that it`s in the minus teens. I live in St. Albert by the way, I`m probably going to look into getting snow tires this week. The traction so far has been good, but there is nothing wrong with over doing it. I tried out the block heater for the first time last night, it started like a charm. I`ve had my Smart 2 weeks today, still on first tank of Diesel from dealership, have two-fifths left and 525 kms on it now. pretty good I`d say, Anyway, talk to you later.

I've tried about 4 different products on the smart and the best IMO is Zaino's Leather in a bottle treatment and conditioner($18.95). Zaino is only available through mail order.

I have a partial bottle of the smart leather cleaner($15.13) for sale. :biglaugh:

Unless they have changed the specs., the clock and tach. pods should be included on a Pulse and not an extra charge option.

Also did you not add on the A/C in order to get use of the pollen filter without opening the windows on hot days. It includes the outside temp. gauge at no charge.

I just looked through most of the stuff that was listed - I think you're right though, I do believe that the pods are included with the Pulse. Well, at least I noticed that they were supposed to be there.... :biglaugh:

Actually, I thought about the A/C for a long time. I figured, in the end, not to opt in for it (just how many hot days did we get in Edmonton last summer? Three or something like that? I don't even remember breaking 30 degrees... but my memor.. umm.. mem... what am I saying? But I still opted in for the filters, I believe that it just filters the air that it pulls from outside before pumping it into the cabin. Or else I just wasted money, something like that. lol I don't think they cost much, so whatever... (I've had A/C in both of my previous cars, I've had cars for about 7 years now, I can count on both hands how many times I've used the A/C, and I'd still have fingers left over!) And if I find that I really really want it, I'll just pay my left arm (this time... lost the right one paying for the downpayment on the house... lol) to have it installed later. Time will tell....

Thanks for your input though! It's appreciated! :)

Welcome to the forum! To a/c or not to a/c... that is the question. Personally, I'm with you - I think I maybe used it half a dozen times last year. Personally, I find I'd rather roll down the window anyway.

Now, I picked my car up from a lot so I didn't get a choice, but had I chosen I would have gone with A/C simply for resale value. So many people look for it so I figured, why not? Still... its money saved and that's always a good thing.

Good to have you on the forum and I hope to read more from you in the future!

That's awesome! I also want to work on the headlights sometime. Move those signal lights... get some super-bright fog lights... I'm goign to have WAY too much fun with this car! lol And that's not even factoring in the "fun factor" of driving the thing!!Snow is great. Especially in a rear-wheel drive vehicle... heh heh heh... it just makes me wonder just how good the ESP thingy is... (doughnuts anyone?) I think Blizzaks are going to be one of my top priorities over the summer, they'll probably be in the first five things I purchase for the car. (Excluding fuel, of course!)Me, obsessive? Nah, couldn't be that. I waited until the day that I put some money down on the car before I even started looking for stuff to do to it. Well... that was before I got my order finished with the sales dude.... Oh, and this (reading the BB) is just basically the first and last thing that I do every day, even before I eat breakfast. I can't stop thinking about it, and I've already got a list of about 27 things that I want to buy for the car... (oop, forgot Blizzaks... make that 28 ) I've already been taking to a guy that I know whos a mechanic about the car and possible modifications to it (what's required and possible, what I want to do and in what order, stuff like that).... That doesn't make me obsessive, does it? LMAO :biglaugh:

Hi again. :)

I was just reading about the Eddie^3 Reality Tour. Sounds pretty cool! The only problem that I could think of is that I might not have the Smart by then, and at that time in May (it looks like the 24th is a Wednesday), I will have just gotten back from Mexico (two week honeymoon :wooo::romance: - I'd be back pretty much that week), and I don't think my employer will really relish me requesting an extra half-week off from work (considering if we don't make deadline on July 1st, we could very well go bust). One of their only (we're supposed to be getting anther one, and one of the managers spends most of her day coding as well - makes almost three of us) coders taking a month off can kinda have a pretty big impact on the level of completion of the project, you know..... (alternative solution: :smashpc:) So, if that's what you were thinking of assigning to me, sorry to have the bad news! Though, I haven't seen you send anything my way yet, maybe the snow + tires have been too much fun and you've been just doing donuts in a single parking stall without going over the lines? :biglaugh:

To paraphrase the Tragically Hip: so that's my story, and I'm stickin' with it!

Well, put in an avatar (weekend project complete!)... sorry that it's blurry, but I took the picture from about 300 feet up in the air when I was moving about 18 miles per hour (I suppose that'd be about 29 kmph) from a hot air balloon. It was lots of fun, but that camera REALLY can't take very good pictures. I've gotta learn how to use it... lol (I'm assuming that the problem with the camera lies somewhere between the keyboard and chair...). I have no idea who owns that car though, sorry. But I did think that not many people would have a picture of a Smart from that angle! :)

Welcome to the group!

Make sure you read all of Eddies stories before you agree to follow him on a trip anywhere!

Do you like energy drinks?

You're willing to call my boss and pretend to be my doctor. Sorry, but this is a job that I want to keep for a few years! I just started it LAST MONTH, I don't want to have to go out and find another one this quickly!

s_mack - hey, if you'ree willing to plop me into a spacecraft, I'm sure I'll be able to get a picture from there (the Smart may only be a pixel or two, however....). Until then, I'll just have to buy stuff from you! :D

Lets see here... 83 kmph, some weird hyper-energy drink, and no sleep for like two full days? Let me see if that gets by the wife.

Geez, I never made her laugh so quickly before.... Though if it's only a place that's about 4 or 5 hours away, then that's not bad at all. No drinking and driving for me! :P Where is it you want to go again? Nelson? Huh. umm... That's not really high on my list of priorities right now. (Maybe talk to me after I finish this release from work and get a nice bonus from them! Unless of course we don't make release and the company goes bust... oi...)

You have yet to travel with people anywhere in your smart? Where would you put them? I'd only recommend putting ONE person in the passenger seat (with you driving, of course!). It's not a clown car (contrary to the wife's opinion...), it's not meant to have people placed anywhere inside of it! LOL

Cait - it's pretty cool! (And thank you!) The guy even burned a hole in the side of the balloon, and as he said - it doesn't matter, the bottom 1/3rd of the balloon is just for advertising, you don't need any panels in that area at all. I believe the tix were about 150 bucks a pop (my older bro took me because his wife wouldn't go with him), and the high-speed (12 mph) landing was frikken' sweet. Especially when the basket turned on it's side and was being dragged along the ground! YEAH! We were in the air for just over an hour, and at the end of it, we had some lovely mimosas. Yummy!

Do I like energy drinks? People tell me that they're glad that I don't drink coffee because I have so much energy. An energy drink would probably send me through the roof! I wouldn't be ABLE to drive! Never mind sit down!! Yeah, a 30 hour drive doesn't sound like a good idea to me... but what do I know, I'm just the new guy. ;)

And thanks for the Welcomes! :)

I have a feeling this Nelson meet will turn into a pretty great event. So keep an open mind ;) Its not *that* far... is it? I mean, I drove to Coquitlam from Edmonton once in 16 hours and Coquitlam is 4 hours from Kelowna so you're 12 hours from me and I'm 4.5 hours from Nelson... 16.5 hours. Not tooooo insane.

Well, it's not just the distance. It's also the timing for me, that's RIGHT in the middle of a HUGE crunch for work (I was actually surprised that they said "okay" when I mentioned that I was going on a honeymoon for like three weeks right around that time!), and taking off another few days would likely get me in some serious trouble. I'm definately going to see how things work out, but I wouldn't place any money on my ability to make it there! (Maybe the next one though?) It'd be nice to go, and I really look forward to reading about it (must... live... vicariously through others....) if I won't be able to make it.... We will certainly find out when the time comes closer though! :)

Oh for sure... you gotta do what you gotta do!

How about this... you're a coder, right? You ditch on this may-or-may-not-survive comapny and move to Kelowna to help write the new version of my company's software then you'll only be 4 hours from the Nelson meet... you'll have first crack at all the latest smart parts and accessories... all that with super job security to boot!

[fine print]I pay my coders shyte because I do all the work and they just clean up.[/fine print]

- Steven

ps. Fine print isn't true... I actually pay them very well but it is extremely short term contract work, since I really do do all the engineering myself. I can't afford to pay for actual work lol
