deezle Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I was in beautiful Montreal last week and spotted a great looking car that I didn't recognize (I usually know every car at a glance). It looked very European with a clean, understated style (unlike the current popular Hyundai's which are looking more and more garish every time I see one). It was the new Scion tC, which I'm not familiar with, and which is very likely a predictable Toyota appliance. But I kept thinking how good it could be if they just made it a hybrid and put some decent Euro suspension and responsive steering on it. Anybody have any experience with it? Quote
MikeT Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Basically a Corolla IIRC, with a nicer body. So, not too good to drive I should imagine. Quote
g_rant Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 they are kinda funky looking aren't they!? personally I am not a fan of the way some designers are making the "C" pillers on the new coupes but to each their own. I know the modding community likes the car and its strong engine (forced injection will easily double the HP without much problem) but there is one major fault, all scions are WRONG wheel drive. Huronlad Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I know the modding community likes the car and its strong engine (forced injection will easily double the HP without much problem)Double the HP out of a 4 cylinder engine is not the feat it once was. The 2L Ecoboost will easily run 300-400HP (iirc) with stock internals, naturally aspirated on Methanol all day long. Beef up the top end and it will produce around 1000HP under boost. Quote

The Renault 5 Turbo Maxi had a reliable 550 HP in competition trim, with a pushrod 1.4 4 cylinder engine that in base trim gave 64 HP...... Quote

The new K's usually don't like it unless you get into head swaps etcand again I must state this is useless power considering its Wrong Wheel Drive! lol Quote

g_rant Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Do an internet search for Saturn's land speed record Ion.well I honestly don't even know here to begin on this one. . first your referanced was an "Ecoboost" engine which is FORD, orginally I was thinking you were somehow referancing the 2.0L ecoboost in some Aussie cars. The Ecotec is GM. Second the Ecotec in a Saturn ION Redline 2.0L is a supercharged motor, the NA is a 2.2L. Also there is many referances out there stating that the landspeed record car has a "race built" engine. Quote
Huronlad Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 My mistake I did indeed mean to reference the ecotec engine. Had a lunch time discussion about the ecoboost in the F-150 the other day and it must have stuck with me. With a stock 2.0L engine GM ran it NA on methanol to find weak points, they had it running making 300-400HP with no reliability issues (iirc). To go above those numbers they put it under boost using a large turbo. Before they got it up to around 1000HP there were weak points in the top end(iirc). They sorted out the weak points, ran it on the Salt Flats and handily beat the old speed record. I am fairly sure the bottom remained stock. Quote
Alex Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 There are two very different reliability standards. One is can the engine reliably finish the race and is measured in hours, the other is more applicable to the real world and is measures in 100K km units and years Quote
