Hornhonker Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Record first quarter smart sales Australian sales of the environmentally friendly and fuel efficient smart car range leapt by 90 per cent in the first quarter of 2005, according to industry data released this week. A total of 179 smart cars were delivered to Australian customers between January and March, a substantial increase over the previous year?s total of 94 for the same period. First quarter smart sales were boosted by increasing demand for the smart fortwo, which has resulted in stock shortages in some cases, and the recent addition of the four-door smart forfour. ?Whilst the new smart forfour is attracting new four-seater customers to the smart brand, demand for the frugal two-seater smart fortwo continues to rise with a 64 per cent increase in the last quarter,? said Sam Tabart, senior manager responsible for smart in Australia. Sales of the smart fortwo cabrio more than doubled in the first quarter of 2005 compared to the previous year. Quote
Hornhonker Posted June 6, 2005 Author Posted June 6, 2005 And abit earlier they said..... Sales of smart cars soar. Australia?s newest automotive brand, smart, recorded impressive sales gains throughout 2004, according to official industry VFACTS figures released yesterday. Between the last two quarters of 2004, sales soared by 45.6 per cent, compared to increases of 16.0 per cent and 6.3 per cent for quarters two to three and one to two, respectively. The brand with the ?open your mind? slogan, delivered a total of 479 cars last year, up a substantial 25 per cent per month on the previous year. In total numbers, the increase is over 85 per cent (2003: 255 units, 2004: 479 units). The original smart fortwo coupe and cabrio accounted for the bulk of smart sales in 2004, the brand?s first full-year on sale in Australia, with 55 per cent of all customers taking delivery of a smart fortwo (267 units). Sales of the smart roadster totalled 149 units for the year, accounting for a healthy 31 per cent of total deliveries. The car that sets new standards in the small car segment, the smart forfour, was the major contributor to the strong sales increase in the final quarter, with the first forfours delivered to Australian customers in October. In the final quarter of 2004, smart posted its best ever and second best ever monthly sales results (October: 63 units, December: 57 units). To achieve its 2005 sales forecast, the brand is targeting total sales of 50 units per month. Quote
