smart142 Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 4:00pm Friday 23rd March 2012 in News THE driver of a Smart car had to be cut free after his vehicle repeatedly rolled over in a rush hour crash on the A12. Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the Ipswich-bound carriageway, near the Tollgate junction at Colchester, to reports of a four-car accident. Witnesses reported the black Smart car had rolled over several times shortly after 8am on Thursday. Firefighters from Colchester and Coggeshall used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the car’s roof and release the man, believed to be in his forties or fifties. Paramedics assessed the man for right arm and shoulder injuries before he was taken to Colchester General Hospital for further treatment. Crews also checked over the occupants of the other cars involved in the crash – a beige Nissan Note, a blue Ford Focus and a black Vauxhall Insignia – but none had suffered injuries. The crash temporarily closed two of the three lanes, causing congestion for commuters on the A12, A120 and A1124. The road was fully reopened after two hours. Witnesses to the accident are asked to contact PC Alex Southgate, of the Stanway road policing unit, on 101. .................... source with picture Quote
smart142 Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 I posted this news article because the driver had only ''right arm and shoulder injuries'' after the smart ''rolled over several times.''The photo shows remarkably little damage, other than the entire roof being cut off by the rescue crew. gordo.bernard Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 The windshield did not even come out. It looks like it was cut in half by the extrication team. Quote
