Duck Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 BASF makes the crazing roofs of the 451, don't they? No, Makrolon is a Bayer product.-Iain Quote
MikeT Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 OK thanks, maybe that BASF stuff is better. Makrolon is what my 404 C taillight lenses were made of 46 years ago, yet they seem OK..... Quote

tolsen Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Original 450 steel rim 3 1/2J15HA with GT Radial WT-70 snow tyre 135/70-R15: 11.6 kg.Original 450 steel rim 5 1/2J15H2B with Maxxis Presa Snow 175/55-R15: 13.7 kg.Both tyres have insignificant wear. Weighed using my bathroom scale which I bet is pretty accurate since it always seems to indicate on the heavy side when I step on it. Quote
MikeT Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 So the steel wheel and OE width alloy rims weigh about the same. My jetlines were 4" wide at the front, not 3.5, and the tires were 145, not 135. So call it a draw. Quote
bilgladstone Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 Result: pretty much what Keith and I found when we weighed various wheels (he has a ton of them!): there is no significant difference in weight between standard smart alloy rims and the steelies. It was surprising to us on that day, and now confirmed with these reported weights. Quote
