Hi Guys: As some of you know or have been looking at the updates I have been doing to our NSU/Smart Resto. we are at the wiring stage now and most of everything is going well and fitting accordingly. But I am trying to figure out what a few things are on the wiring harness. As we won't be using the heater or AC in the resto car, we are trying to figure out if we can take the wiring out of the harness for the preheater/booster, and the little silver and blue box that seem to be contected to it. My brother who is doing the work on the car has asked me to ask the list if these items were added on as an option as they don't look like they were put in the same time as the factory wiring was. These pic show the items as they were in the donar smart, and the ones we are trying to figure out if they can be removed. I have read in some posts that the silver box is connected to the glow plugs and we don't want to mess with the glow plug wiring. So if some of you know what the items are and if they can be removed with no interferance to the glow plugs please let me know.thanksWendy

Meant as a general comment rather than technical advice, if you've no need for cabin heat, the electrical heat booster likely can be abandoned. The silver box near the battery is the "Canada E-box" that was uniquely added to Canadian smarts and controls a number of key functions, so it should stay. That's all I can offer. Good luck with this snake's nestBil :drive:

I disagree with Bil,As far as I know the Canada E-box only controls the little pod of lights on top of the dash, between the clock and tach, and some of the external lights. So you should be able to get rid of it in your project.Canman

Thanks Bil and Canman, So the external lighting may be the day time running lights that the silver box controls? What is then the little grey/blue box for?WEndy

Fairly certain the SAM controls the drl. The silver box controls the 4 lights between the dash pods and the tail lights, it should be possible to pull the silver box out and splice the original wires back together. The blue box is likely controls for the heat booster, so it could go.
