It's hard to assign a value to a modified car, find the right buyer and it could be worth maybe $10K, perhaps a little more, but to be honest it would certainly be more rewarding financially to sell the go-faster parts separately and sell the car itself as a more normal remapped smart.

It will be a sad day when you let go the GT smart, buddy. I tend to agree with Mike - it is common wisdom that you will never get your money back on the customizations and upgrades. Prepare to take a bit of a bath.Any bits you can part out separately will give you a more profitable return than selling the package as a whole. But I realise there is not really much from your list that can be stripped out. This is such a beautiful looking car - I wonder where and how would be best to make your offer in order to attract an equally special buyer?Bil :sun:

I agree with Mike T. The market would be slim to find a buyer who understands what you've done to the smart.

In Aug Dang sold his passion for $6200 and it had 44,000kms. There was over $20,000 of modifications in the car.... click here

Yes, I do realize I will be losing a great deal of money since this isn't the firstt car I've modified then sold.Like Bil says, there isn't much that can be removed without changing the cars look.Maybe just a car lot, and have it sit there "as is"

You say you will lose a lot of money by selling it. Wrong thinking! You have already lost the money, will never recoup it, and you have gained a beautiful unique car. What changes if you sell it? You no longer have the beautiful unique car.Keep it in such good shape and it will only gain value going forward as low mileage good condition CDI smarts become rarer, and you will have it for weekend drives.

I know Alex, in 10 years or so when most of the Cdi's are all toast, this super clean stored modified little car will be awesome as a road car.I also see that money paying some dept we've had with the last big business move and shop build .......Tough call.I bet someone out there would like to own the GT

Well ater looking at all different used Smart prices and all my receipts, I have deciced not to sell the "GT" at this time and I guess it will just stay in storage in the garage.Sorry for that guys, but I really don't think I would get what the cars worth and I'm not going to take a massive loss.

Don't get me wrong, Steve, I think you should keep the car at this point. But you won't "take a massive loss" if you sell it. That money is gone! The loss has been taken already. The car is worth what you can sell it for and not a penny more. Except in intangible pride and joy measures, which is why you should keep it.

Good decision. The car is clearly worth a lot more to you than to "the market", and that is always a very good reason to hang onto it.I'd never sell the Canada 1 for the same reason.

We recently sold our 2006 Pulse, with nearly the same mileage. It was also a tough decision, took us a couple of years to stop talking about it and finally sell. Apparently we did rather well getting 9,000 for it. I think the right buyer came along at the right time. Still, that was depreciation of over 2K per year, which just doesn't feel good.I think unless you absolutely know you will keep a car till it dies, it just doesn't pay to purchase new. I don't think we'll ever be buying a new car again, only used from now on.Still, no regrets owning the smart. It was gret for us while we had it and while it was functional. To many little human's in our family now.

Well who want's to own the GTThere is no reason it should stay in the garage for another year.Someone may as well drive and enjoy it.My business keeps me in my truck everyday.I'm finally putting an add in classifieds Smarts for sale section. I also just spent 16K updating my woodworking shop so it's time.Spring is right on the doorstep too.

It's not possible to reply to a classified ad, but here I will say that's going to be a good deal for someone....very good.

Thanks Mike, I hope so.I modified my add in Classifieds too So now possible trades for a small 4 dr 4cyl car for my wife to drive, plus some cash might work.
