David_18 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 (edited) I have a problem with my smart, i thing the Actoator is the problem... Car won't move, but i can ear something under the car. I remove the actuator, evrerything look good, but when i want to reinstall it, impossible ! The "arm" seems to be extented at the max. I can not align the hole for the screw.. It is possible to "press in" the arm ? ANd I have this Code : P0702 Transmission Control System Electrical Mine looks longer ?? Edited December 20, 2013 by David_18 Quote
WudzRydr Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Yes you can manually push it in. I had to do that to the one I got from the wreckers to replace mine. Quote
David_18 Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) Need to push very hard ?I try a bit, but nothing move Edited December 20, 2013 by David_18 Quote
turbomar Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 With the clutch actuator electrical connector plugged in and the key on, cycle the gear shift from drive to neutral. The actuator should retract Quote
Alex Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) Did you turn on the car with the actuator removed? If so you may have a big problem. This is critical! There is a strong spring within the actuator, meant to balance the force of the clutch that the actuator works against. If the actuator is activated when removed it does not have the strength to retract, if I understand the problem correctly. Sorry, turbomar, you must have missed that bit, but that is very bad advice.Wait for some more info from someone who may know more details. If you cycle the power while pressing the actuator hard it may retract, not sure.Anyone know for sure?Edit: Do you have the fork punch-through problem? Edited December 20, 2013 by Alex Quote
David_18 Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) The Fork look good.Forget to say, the plug was loose, one clip gone, so it is maybe why the actuator stop to work in the middle of the road... Edited December 20, 2013 by David_18 Quote
WudzRydr Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I put the pin in mine and put my weight on it. It won't retract on it's own. Quote
turbomar Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I stand corrected Alex. The actuator rod will have to be assisted to go back in. The motor may not be strong enough Quote
David_18 Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) I put the pin in mine and put my weight on it. It won't retract on it's own.How did you do ? With what you push it ? The cable is not very long.. Edited December 20, 2013 by David_18 Quote
Alex Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) I put the pin in mine and put my weight on it. It won't retract on it's own.I am not certain on this at all. I think though, that if you cycle the power (assistant needed) while pressing hard it may retract. It is always extended with the power on until it is in gear and you press the throttle. Without the motor trying to move it as well it won't press in, no matter how hard you try. The gears lock up. Edited December 20, 2013 by Alex Quote
WudzRydr Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Cable?Unhook it from the car. Make sure the the rod is clipped in. Hold with both hands and push it against the floor. Put your weight on it. Quote
WudzRydr Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Ok. Just hold the motor and put the rod against the floor and lean on it. It will go back in. I went through the same thing and thought I bought a faulty unit. Pushed it back in by hand and it's been working perfectly for almost 2 months now. Quote

David_18 Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 And it will lock and stay in place ? Quote
WudzRydr Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) It doesn't lock. Without power to the motor it will just stay in. Just push it in. Bolt it back on the car. Then plug it in. If it is functioning properly it will work as it is supposed to when you turn the key. Edited December 20, 2013 by WudzRydr Quote
David_18 Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) I try to push the "hand", but it is too steep. I then removed the motor and rotates the stator by hand to replace the actuator in the right place and Bingo! Thanks Dom ! Edited December 20, 2013 by David_18 Quote
Joey751 Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 I Just pushed the actuator rod back into the actuator box. Bolted it back in the car and plugged it back in. If it is functioning properly and shifts smooth and quiet as I loaded the actuator up with lube and greased the rod before reinstalling it. This is an awesome goto forum for finding help and suggestions. Quote
CANMAN Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Make sure to take the car to Mercedes or someone with a star machine to "teach in the clutch".Canman Quote
SmarMy Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 So, I made a mahoosive mistake today by unbolting the clutch actuator whilst it was in the fully extended position. I just put it in a vise and tried pushing the rod back in, and it goes back ok, but as soon as I loosen the vise, the rod just springs back out. Anything im doing wrong?? Quote
LooseLugNuts Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 im pretty sure its posted somewhere in this forum that you can jump power to it and retract it on a bench try searching for actuator rebuild or repair threads 1 Quote
LooseLugNuts Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 (edited) or put it back on the car and try to push it in until the bolts line up where they where (and bolt it back on) .... and cycle the key Edited December 11, 2019 by LooseLugNuts 1 Quote
SmarMy Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Thanks LooseLugNuts for your reply. I was hollering before I was hurt lol I put it back in the vise and pushed it all the way in and it stayed in place. Quote
