Hi guys, I love Smart Fortwo's, but never liked the fact that they do not come with a spare tyre.

I have never liked compressor+goo kits as they are not 100% reliable at getting a tyre re-inflated.

451

So here is my solution and its a spacesaver tyre, 115mm wide, located behind the passenger seat ( being from the UK my passenger seat is on the other side :D )

The metal bar of the luggage rack keeps it in place, and leaves the whole trunk space free for luggage.

I also keep my wheel brace, lifting scissors jack and chocks (to wedge the tyre diagonally opposite the punctured tyre, to stop slippage) all in a padded bag behind the drivers seat. I have also got a wheel cover over the wheel to make it look good.

I bought the fortwo spacesaver on Ebay, also there you could buy a Fortwo front tyre instead to use as a get me home tyre. In the UK the spacesaver can be used if you do not exceed 50MPH and just use it to get to garage or home.

450

NOTE: When I owned my 450 Fortwo, there was no spacesavers availabe at that time, so I used a 135mm front steel wheel, and located it in the trunk, though it did use up some luggage space, and had to cut through the back of luggage cover, (the pink umberella is the wifes, in case your wondering  )

I did mention that I also have a set of small chocks (wedges) in the car.

From experience when changing a flat on my previous 450, it was on a slope and the car being light and of short wheel base, it slid a bit when winding up the jack, so I got a fright.

So since then I carry the chocks to jamb under the wheel diagonally opposite.

You can get them for only a few dollars and they are worth carrying.

Here are the metal ones I have, that fold down, but you can also get them solid in plastic or wood, at most car part shops.

Definitely a worthwhile option. Seriously, who wants to fix a flat tire with the compressor/Tirefit bottle when it's freezing cold outside? How to get a spacesaver tire for a smart steel wheel is another story, though.
