42Kruiser Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 A blast from the past with a modern hemi. 425 ponys, definitely not a daily commuter If they do + if I can = would I ever Quote
RichHelms Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 I remember the challenger well. A friend of mine had one. I think they captured the essence well Quote
100MPGUS Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 that is a beautiful car. They did do a good job and we were talking about this at work and it is supped to go for about 35,000 US. If I had 35K laying around, I would buy one, and put it right into storage. in 20 years I would bring it to the barret-jackson auction and retire on the money i got. From this year. 1309 is the lot number. 1309 1970 PLYMOUTH HEMI 'CUDA 2 DOOR CONVERTIBLE $2,160,000.00 Quote
42Kruiser Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006 I think they've done an awesome job. Motoring 2006 had a piece on it today. The interior is just as awesome. If and when produced it could be fun trying to get one (sound familiar) as the dodge muscle car boys are pretty die-hard. I was disappointed in what GM has for a camaro concept. Quote
IMSMRT Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Ford did a great job capturing the retro look of the Mustang. As well, the Dodge Challenger looks awesome. Chevy, IMHO has really dropped the ball with the look of their new Camaro. The front end just isn't right and tha back end looks like it was stolen off a Corvette. But my smart car still looks AWESOME! S Quote
smartnhappy Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Some shots from the recent Detroit Auto show. This car was one of a few standout concepts, in My humble opinion. Quote
darren Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I thought the Camaro was a more successful "modernization" of the '60s pony car. It looks badass compared to the Challenger. Quote
IMSMRT Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 But look at the front of the challenger it screams "BAD ASS" muscle car Unlike the Charger which was by no means an attempt at going retro. Another car that shares a muscle car name but could have been soooooo much more is the new Pontiac GTO. MAyber there is hope for it in the future though! Of course a "concept" can change before its production... S Quote

IMSMRT Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Yeah it could have been so much more than a front fascia on a 300M. And since they have already stuffed that Hemi in all their cars...... All the old Camaros have narrow horizontal strips in the front grille. Almost a trademark. The 69 of course with a blacked out and slightly recessed one. I am seeing the recess on the 2009 but the cross hatch ( ######) is all wrong...imho. And no matter what it still looks like a Corvette from the back....only with square taillights. S Quote
smartnhappy Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 For comparo purposes, here's a few shots of the Camero concept also from Detroit Auto Show. Quote
42Kruiser Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 Take the pontiac nose off the camaro and change the taillights to a rectangle shape like on the 1st generation camaros. The lines on it I do like very much. My Quote
deezle Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 IMHO they're all gas-guzzling, polluting, and ugly monstrosities that pay homage to one of the lowest points in the history of automotive design. My idea of a great Detroit muscle-car design would be this: Quote
Gent Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 A very difficult lesson for me to learn was that big block American muscle cars are VERY bad for me. I almost lost my licence when I was a teen because of the way those cars would whisper in my ear. The phrase "Speed against Highway sign" appeared endlessly on my driving record. The first car I had was a hopped up 66 Mercury Comet Caliente. I made it to from White Rock to Seattle in 45 minutes with that car. My relationship with that car was like something out of the first half of the novel "Christine". Quote
spinner Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Looking at both the old and new car pictures in this topic, what do all the new cars seem to have in common? Big honkin' wheels! Quote
IMSMRT Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 But the difference in wheels is noticable. The older cars have small wheels and BIG meats. The newer cars are sporting large wheels and lo pro tires. Adding alot more oompf to the look imho. S Quote
Gent Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I saw a 60 Caddy the other day with big damn wheels and wide tires. They might have been 20" and running at least 275s. It looked incredible. Quote
