darren Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Today i just started getting the “service in 30 days” notifications in my instrument cluster. That would put it at about 5 months or approximately 6,000 km for the first service, which seems awfully early for the ED. The service manual says every year or 20,000 km. Is it possible that the service indicator didn’t get reset when it was delivered, so it was still at its factory setting? Quote
Silver Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 My expeience I bought a brand-new 2013, delivery on September 5, 2014. I really don't know the real story but apparently it showed up from MB at this out of the way dealership. My wife drove it home and when I got into it it had just over a 1000 km on the clock. we hadn't checked it on delivery. I got the service reminder about 2 months later, made an appointment with the dealer and when I got there, the salesman looked awfully surprised. When I told him why he conferred with the service man and they realized that the reminder hadn't been reset on delivery. The reset it and told me to come back next year. Quote
Huronlad Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 This is something that is to be done as part of the pdi, they apparently did not do the pdi, I would be demanding money back from the dealership. Quote
steveyfrac Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Your car was new? Should be a year, or 20k. I'd bet it's been a year since your car was assembled... Quote
David_18 Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 The car will show 1 year service from is build date, not the buy date. Same for my 06, i buy it in september and i got the service indicator in January Quote
darren Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Yup, same with me… bought in September, service indicator started showing yesterday. I'm guessing they just missed resetting it at delivery. Quote
MikeT Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 You all should be demanding PDI refunds, because clearly some corners were cut. Quote
steveyfrac Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Or perhaps they want to see that battery pack after a year regardless of if it was sold or not? Quote
David_18 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Yeah, if the car stay at the garage unsold for a year, it will take 2 year for the first service... Quote
darren Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Not sure if i paid for a PDI since mine is a lease. Quote
steveyfrac Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Mine was a lease, and I definitely paid PDI. Quote

steveyfrac Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) I question if you want to reset that.... Might be worth it to just take it to the dealer and get the service... If they come back and say 'Hey, this car should have been serviced in January, your warranty is void' that could be a bad day for you. At least confirm it was missed in PDI. Too many ED's from too many dealerships have had early service warnings, and these batteries are still new fangled in the industry. They might really intend for you to see it, expecially since the battery has been sitting idle for most of a year it would seem. Edited January 29, 2015 by steveyfrac Quote
darren Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 The service manual says it's not due for service for 1 year or 20,000 km, whichever comes first. The warranty doesn't get activated until the car is sold, so it's not like i can be on the hook for the time between when the car was manufactured and when i brought it home. I wasn't getting any warning lights going off, just a "care service in 30 days" notice. Quote
Jaguar Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 It looks like this is happening to a lot of us. Mine too came up two months early. I just waited until the one year anniversary before bringing it in. No one even noticed. However, when you do take it in, you might want to remind them to reset the service indicator. Quote
SmartElectric Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 FYI http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/forums/f183/maintenance-indicator-reset-service-wrench-17189/index30.html#post1035250 I've been able to reset mine... Quote
darren Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Yup, i did mine using the procedure shown on the Evilution page above. Steps 1 and 2 on your post to SCOA aren't necessary. I just got in, turned the key, double-tapped the button, turned off, press-and-hold, turn on, wait… done. Where people have had that not work, they either didn't do the whole operation quickly enough, or didn't wait long enough on the press-and-hold to have it reset. Gotta be quick AND patient. Quote
SGZ51 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 It took me 3 tries but was able to figure it out. The instructions are correct and as stated by another steps 1 and 2 are not required. The instructions don't state that you have to perform the sequences relatively quickly. So using having one hand I the button and the other on the key is the easiest. In my opinion you should use both hands at the same time and perform the sequence like a video game. One sequence immediately after the next. 1: Leave your left hand on the left button on theand hold the key in the ignition with your right hand. 2: Turn Key to position 1, immediately press the left button twice BUT DO NOT HOLD. Immediately after the second button press turn the key off. Immediately after the key is in the off position, press the left button and HOLD DOWN, immediately turn key back to position 1. The SVC should reset within a few seconds. Good luck. Quote
marchanna Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 The key here is making sure that when you turn the key off after the first button pushes, is that the service indicator remains in the display. I just did this again, and it's terribly finicky. Quote
