stickman007 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I'm so addicted to these little diesel cars! This one is a 2005 Passion with 130k on the body and 71k on the engine. It has heated leather seat and automatic options. Came with a set of brand new winter tires on steel rims. Paid $3k So excited! Will post pics tomorrow 1 Quote
MikeT Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Good deal! I was thinking of doing something similar...maybe in the fall. Quote
kdubya Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Will this be a second smart? Another parts car? Or your new primary? Good for you. Quote
stickman007 Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 So this car is for our school's shop program. We're expanding and I wanted something that was newer, cheap, unique, and I'm familiar with. It does have a few issue: 1) a whistle noise whenever it is cruising over 90km/h - suspecting pre turbo exhaust leak 2) driver door has a lot of wind noise 3) radio is not connected to the speakers When I arrived to pick up the car, I noticed that the oil was over filled (sucked out 1.5L before the fill mark!). Did a scan to reveal that it had major engine issue (hence the 71k engine swap) Had to add one with the school bus! Izzy Quote
mhawel Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 That whistling could simply be a misalignment of the hose that rests right up against the air intake inlet on the body. If you pop off the center disc, you'll be able to see if it lines up or not. Could also be the other end down lower where it lines up to the air box. I got mine back from the dealer after a starter replacement with a really bad whistle, and they replaced the turbo twice to try and get rid of the issue.... I eventually located the issue... Gonna get mine back on the road this spring after a couple years! Quote
tolsen Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Regrettably, partly blocked inlet duct at the joint inside chassis above air box is very common on Smart 450s that have visited dealer for surgery. I treated two Smarts with this problem recently. Quote
