The rationale is to try and draw more customers to their stores and allow people to top up and shop. Not a bad idea. Shop a little or a lot and grab a bite to eat while there and then head home 'fully loaded'. Quote

marchanna Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 One of the key objectives of RTA (ready to assemble) furniture manufacturing these days is to reduce the actual amount of wood material in the laminated boards. Today they have achieved new heights of low-density board such that the core is no longer structural but rather just filler held together by the laminate on both sides or a progressively denser layer at the surfaces. This has created the need to develop new types of cutters to cut and shape the boards because they tend to disintegrate during manufacturing. What all this mumbo-jumbo means is, yes the quality of their furniture is so poor that it barely holds together. Quote

It's better quality than, say, the stuff from Walmart or the grocery store, but most of it is still just cheap furniture. I think the target audience for most of their product is college/university students. Some of it isn't bad though - the Kallax (Cost reduced version of the former Expedit) and Lack lines are both very sturdy pieces. Neither one is overly complicated though, and I imagine that helps a lot. EDIT: And FWIW, the 2x4 Kallax fits in a smart, back hatch closed Quote

We got a set of Akrobat (so designated) living room wall units back in 1989 when we were starting out our house and it still looks excellent today. But most of their stuff is nae good. But I have a good set of Veggen De Luxe teak, now that is nice stuff! Quote

The Burlington, Etobicoke and Concord IKEA locations are almost perfectly situated to fill gaps in my charging network. And it's almost impossible to get in and out of IKEA in under two hours, so it's pretty ideal! Quote
