Smart ForTwo Electric Drive goes out of production

Next-generation model slated to arrive in the second half 2016

Smart has quietly ended production of the ForTwo Electric Drive.

While the model isn't going away completely, it will take several months before production begins on the new model which is based on the redesigned ForTwo.

As a refresher, the outgoing ForTwo ED has a 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that develops 74 PS (55 kW) and 130 Nm (96 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 11.5 seconds, hit a top speed of 78 mph (125 km/h) and have an estimated range of 76 miles city / 59 miles highway / 68 miles combined.
