dpollo
I passed the 10 000 km mark this week after 6 months ownership. I am still very pleased with the car although I do miss my electric. Some trips were just not possible but I will not rule out owning another one day. I checked the oil as I am about to take the 453 over the Coquihalla Highway. ( mountainous) The oil level is still full but I am not impressed with the accessibility of the dipstick. Seems to me a secondary cover would solve this problem. Maybe I will do this after the warranty is over. I am starting to see more 453s on the road now.
DangerDan
Just over 6500 km on our 453 here after about 5 months. All is purring along well, but the TomTom system has somehow lost its live data (traffic & weather, etc) connectivity.
DangerDan
Heh, spoke too soon. Check Engine light came on the other day in 35°C stop-and-go traffic. OBD reader says code P26AB, which seems to be a faulty coolant valve. Have an appointment for Monday at MB to have it checked out, along with the TomTom thing. MikeT
Aw nuts. In 575,000 km of driving smart and Mercedes-Benz, I've never had a CEL. Lots of other things, but never a CEL!!
dpollo
The Coquihalla trip was uneventful. My round trip was 1100 kms and the 453 was a comfortable car to ride in. It was not possible to travel at the posted speed of 120 kph on the way into the interior of the province because of gusty winds but it was possible on the way back to the coast and I made very good time. My biggest criticism is the smaller fuel tank which caused some inconvenience yet it being empty seemed to coincide well with my personal need for a pit stop. Up to 12500 kms now and I am quite pleased with the car. I do miss my Electrosmarty but it is impossible to use one on a trip such as I just described. DangerDan
It did indeed turn out to be a faulty coolant valve (as this American smart buyer found out). The part took a day to get into Montreal from HQ in Toronto, so I was given a 453 passion loaner, similarly equipped to mine, minus the sport package. The lowered suspension, low-profile tires, and 16" wheels did make a noticeable difference in handling.
