MikeT
All 31 in Canada were electric. It's fair to say that from now on, they all will be.

niteshooter
Autotrader has a new 2016 in Windsor ON that is gas. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/markham-york-region/2011-smart-fortwo-limited-edition-pure-sound/1367016933?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true I've only seen the one 453 manual pop up at a GM dealer in Oshawa but it was sold by the time I got out there to look at it. They don't turn up very often, there was another up in Peterborough a couple of months ago at the MB dealer there but also sold as it dropped off Autotrader. That one was really expensive. MikeT
Whoops, that link is for a 2011. I see Overseas has one, as you say. In any case, it's likely a negligible quantity of new gassers country-wide and I can't be arsed to check other dealers' inventory!

MikeT
For comparison, Maserati, a brand whose sales have tanked recently, sold 42 cars in Canada in October.....
Thegorillabear
When I was in getting parts around July talked to a salesguy at the dealer in Brampton and he said they only make electric now. Something about environment and having to have an electric modle blah blah blah. I then asked him what the range was like and he said in an almost embarased way only about 120km under ideal conditions. That made it a non option for me. I do 163 km round trip for my commute daily so having a car with such short leggs is less than useless. It's clutter in the yard.
MikeT
I agree, 120 km is only enough for those who live in big cities (in which case I wonder why transit isn't an option). If the range had been 240 km it'd have been still a marginal prospect for most potential buyers.
smart142
I believe that studies show that 90% of city people drive less than 30kms in a day. I know that is true in my circumstances. I had an ED for 3 years and it met my needs perfectly. The only reason I did not buy it out is because I have 3 running smarts and a boundless supply of parts. fyi - the public transport in London sucks. If I were to take a bus to my shop I would have to transfer 2 times and then a 5 minute walk. Probably take well over an hr and $2.50. Compare that to less than 20mins in the cdi and 1/2 l of diesel, say 60cents.
lebikerboy
120 km range is basically what I get in the worst conditions on the west coast. During the summer 140's are the most common...

Every winter we had several days repeatedly that are -30C and -20C is common for a big hunk of the winter. Since this would negatively effect the battery life, it wrights this off completely as an option for me. I will just keep working on the 05 and hoping I can keep it rolling. If it works for you, you are lucky.

I live in Toronto, and my ED sat in the driveway half the time because walking or taking transit was more convenient or cheaper. And because of the size and range limitation, I was STILL renting cars to go visit family, haul big stuff, or take weekend trips to cottage country. The $100 lease was amazing, but it wasn't worth buying out just for the occasional convenience.
