Tried finding this in the search function but no luck. My 2017 Smart ED has the infotainment option, with the TomTom maps functionality via SD card. However, maps aren't loading, and when I put the card into my computer it is showing up empty.

When I launch TomTom's "SmartMediaConnect" on the computer and get signed in with the vehicle's card registered to my account, it continually gives me the "our servers are very busy right now" error. I've tried multiple times at different times of the day. Sometimes, it will load my account details for a split second, but still gives the same error shortly after.

Is there a way to bypass this stuff and just manually download map data from TomTom to be used by the car's GPS via the SD card?

I experienced this same issue on my 2019 EQ for several months until this week.

But GOOD NEWS! TomTom just fixed this in their latest update of the Smart Media Connect app. BTW, the SD card will show up as empty because everything is in a hidden portion.

I received the following advisory from their support as I had lodged an official problem report:

"I would like to inform you that we have received an update from the concerned team and I request you to launch the Smart Media Connect application and you will be prompted to update the application. Hence, please update it and check if you are able to update your Navigation system."

Well, it worked! I bought the latest map for the North America region (Canada, USA, Mexico version) from their online store and it showed up in my account as soon as I connected the SD card to my computer. From there, I selected the appropriate components - there's the main map, the MDR boot block, Voices and EV charging places etc. in this package. After updating on being prompted to do so, It took about 30 minutes for the download from the computer to the SD card, and a further 30 minutes to update the car's smart Media after reinserting the SD card and turning the system on.

Excellent news! I was resigned to just not having navigation in the vehicle anymore (which...isn't the end of the world since iPhones do it a bit better anyway), but yeah thanks to your message I booted up the program and it auto-updated. Now, even without a card in the computer it isn't automatically locking me out/logging out, so I can see there's a couple updates to install.

Can't wait to test it out, thanks! I'll update the thread here if it works.

It all works!

Odd that my vehicle has outdated European maps, being an American model. But it’s only $50 for a one-time map download. I’ll take advantage of that when we get to driving that vehicle around more.

Thanks again.
