Diesel
I've got a 2005 450 which has been operating fine until a couple of days ago. After being parked outside in a heat wave, I couldn't get it to go into gear. In fact, I haven't been able to since then. This is what happens: the car starts normally, then when attempting to shift into 1st, I hear 10 slow thumps, then I get three dashes. After that I can no longer attempt to go into 1st. However, I can attempt to go into reverse (with the three dashes still displayed), where I'll hear 8-9 much louder and quicker thumps. I can only do that once as well before I have to restart. Am I in some kind of strange mode? This literally happened while the car was parked - it was operating perfectly before then. I'm quite far from a dealer so any advice that can get me back on the road (even in limp mode) would be appreciated.
Leadwing
This sounds like the typical "3 bars of death" scenario. There can be one or a variety of issues. Cracked reluctor rings and bad grounds are the two most common problems. The smart gearbox relies on a lot of electronics to keep it working properly, it only takes one part to misbehave to call up an error code. Causes can be one or more of the following: Evilution says: Fuse Blown Secondary Fuse/Relay Box Corrosion (600cc) Faulty SE Drive Stuck Gears Weak Battery Poor Earth Lead Faulty Brake Lights Incorrect Brake Light Bulb LED Brake Light Bulbs Faulty Gearbox RPM Sensor Faulty Rear Light Loom (Roadster) Faulty Gear Motor Faulty Gear Position Sensor Faulty Clutch Actuator Chaffed Wires Damage Wires Stuck Clutch Seized Gearbox Faulty Relay Split Reluctor Rings Worn Clutch Fork Solder Joint Failure Faulty gearbox RPM sensor Gearbox Reteach Canadian E-Box Failure ECU Component Failure
Willys
Take off your actuator and check it out first. Then if not ruined, clean and freshly lube it with spray white lube. Then check to see if the rod has pushed itself through clutch fork, if so there is a cheat fix by adding a larger tip to the rod so it can't push through again. Search this mod or fix. Then re-attach actuator firmly against clutch fork and try the car again...it may re-learn itself, if not you'll need it to be re-taught using a STAR machine(same machine or computer the dealership uses) But it should work. IF that was the problem. Good chance it was. Pre soak the three bolts holding the actuator on and smack each with a hammer to help loosen the rust. Beware they do snap and you will be drilling them out and re-tapping the hole. Not that hard just time consuming. IF you know how.
