Matadurr
My wife’s 2017 fortwo ED is driving us both a little nuts. The car alarm is going off seemingly at random (and often), and with no disturbances to be found. Either the sensitivity is too high, or the sensor for the alarm is busted. Whatever it is, we would love to know how to turn down the sensitivity or at the very least deactivate the alarm. I already checked for the common little black box underneath the driver’s side dash for the slot to turn it down but I couldn’t find anything. Any ideas? We really don’t want to piss the neighbors off even more. Thank you! Edited December 19, 2021 by Matadurr
jwight
There was a TSB (in the US at least) for this issue: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10144064-9999.pdf Basically the alarm switch under the hood needs to be a little higher. Quote Remedy: • Open service flap • Mark sensor with a white felt pen (see Figure 1) • Fully close service flap • Open service flap • White marking on contact plate (see Figure 2) • Here drill an 8mm hole (use a center punch, initially drill a 5mm hole) (see Figure 3, 4, 5) • Insert expansion rivet and washer (see Figure 6, 7) • Mark sensor again and check whether the sensor marks the rivet (see Figure 8)

Brilliant. Thank you for this. I just cut out a little thin piece of furniture foam padding and stuck it to the place of contact (someone previously has tried drilling a hole FB gets). So far so good. Four straight days of no false alarms. cheers!
