tyc Posted January 29, 2022 Author Posted January 29, 2022 I found something else: the pin of an IC is corroded so I don't know if it still works. It's an MC1413BD, a Darlington Transistor Arrays. This model is no longer manufactured but the equivalent is ULN2003D1013TR ... how equivalent it is remains to be seen. Quote
Mjolinor Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 It doesn't need replacing, it can still be connected as it should be. I would be more concerned about the through hole plating given the state of the board. You are going to be in a world of pain trying to mend that board. Quote
tyc Posted January 30, 2022 Author Posted January 30, 2022 In the meantime I made some measurements. Between A and B the infinite resistance, between B and C the resistance 0 ... painful. Under the magnifying glass To try a tin correction ... I need fingers crossed : Quote
Mjolinor Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Two down, several hundreds more to find and fix. 1 Quote
tyc Posted January 30, 2022 Author Posted January 30, 2022 I hope this is the only defect of this kind ... I still have to stay at home this week - the car is in the public car park. Quote

Worth the effort at least for a while. The other options are hard on the SAM. You need Xprog or something similar as the EEPROM is inside the main processor I think. Quote
Willys Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Just looking at that main processor is enough to make my toes curl and make me run away! Even going to the extent he is going is far past where I would go personally, both in patience and skill level. I can't deal with electronics at this level, I hate things I can't see...lol. Not to mention working on such small items that contain white smoke possibly in the future...? What's the old saying...? Once the white smoke is out it's very hard to get it back in..? .lol. I personally would be saving for a SAM and simply reteaching it to speak to the other 2 computers in the car. I've had to do mine twice now, once for a blown ECU and the other just playing around in the STAR installing ing and removing items trying to figure things out. It isn't that difficult once you find the correct location in the STAR itself. Again to each their own and he may just teach us something we/I don't know....which is always a good thing. Watching with eyes wide open. Quote
LooseLugNuts Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 theres a guy on youtube who has tons of videos about soldering small parts and repairing boards on youtube.....should be easy to find if you search for Louis Rossmann Quote

tyc Posted January 31, 2022 Author Posted January 31, 2022 I'm coming out of quarantine soon and I can mount SAM. I'm just curious ... Quote

You have to 'see' it with your mind's eye. that is, logical. If the SAM in question works correctly and Star does not register error codes, it means that the problem is solved. I also considered purchasing another SAM that I will synchronize with the other 4 ECUs via MB Star. For me in the car it's a SCADA. 1 Quote
Willys Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 What is a SCADA, I don't think I have heard of this before...? I took electronic engineering for a few semesters....I was OK when the proffesor told me to think of it as water running through a pipe, that was easy for me to translate into my 3D imagery in my head. Once they switched to AC current that ended and I quickly got lost. I switched into mechanical engineering and that was easy so to speak. For me any way. That I can translate to an image in my head and understand it very quickly. I have an issue with just accepting this happens without a good explanation of why and some elctronics is or was like that for me. But, I am always willing to learn if it is explained clearly to me and how and why it happens the way it does. Not to forget I am forced to learn now owning this car. lol. I appreciate all and any help you have to share with anyone, it really helps. Thanks. 1 Quote
Mjolinor Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 (edited) SCADA is a control system used by the electricity industry. Other control processes do use it but the electricity industry is probably the biggest user. "Supervisory control and data acquisition" It covers a plethora of communication systems at a high level. Mjolinor Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 You are extremely unlikely to come across it in electronic studies or indeed, any studies. I studied electronics and did not come across SCADA until I was commissioned to do research into it at an electricity utility. 1 Quote
tyc Posted February 2, 2022 Author Posted February 2, 2022 Williys SCADA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCADA - I mean something like that and the production is energy (necessary to move). Mjolinor SCADA is used in all areas. For example, now I do SCADA for Michelin. I make tires. SCADA is used in almost all fields and in principle the system consists of several sensors that are read by process computers (EDG / MEG, ABS) and these computers are controlled by a master computer (EEZ / SAM) that displays the results on another (instrument cluster) ... Smart has few process computers. You see on a locomotive ... only 2 are on the traction heat engine. In the meantime I made a stronger N11-3. Today is the last day of house arrest, sorry, quarantine and tomorrow I can leave the house. I'll see what I know how to do. 1 Quote
Willys Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 You have made a more robust connection for sure but a real pain to connect to easily if and when you wish to drop your SAM in the future.....not that I disagree with your fix, just unless there is a connection that plugs into it as a whole and not single wires you may dislike the fix after the first or second time you need to remove your SAM. My electrical issues are from lack of use of them, if i had someone who could teach me what I need to know as it relays to what i am working on such as our SmartCar then it would be easier for it to sink into my concrete dome...lol. But learning from a book isn't easy for this type of subject in my case I'm afraid. Quote
It's 22:04 (+7 hours from Pefferlaw) and I'm already going to bed because it will be faster for me in the morning. Edited February 2, 2022 by tyc 1 Quote
tyc Posted February 3, 2022 Author Posted February 3, 2022 This time it wasn't to be ... I ordered another SAM from dismantling. And it has a box with connectors, maybe I can find one to try the SAM. Quote

At least you tried to get it going.....far better than just chucking it away before having a look see.....But that board was the worst I've seen in my short time owning a Smart Car. Now you just need to be able to teach it to talk to the other computers. Quote
tyc Posted February 6, 2022 Author Posted February 6, 2022 On Friday night I received a SAM V013 whose appearance was questionable. From my former boss so I trusted him. Today I mounted it on the car and with the help of Star I tried to synchronize it. Successfully, the car does all the functions (on the spot - lights, headlights / wipers / etc and without error codes) but did not want to change VIN and kilometers. Miles know that he takes from the instrument cluster if there are more or vice versa if he has more. Which didn't happen. The engine started, tormented but started, in 2 weeks I will replace the engine. About the engine: -starts very hard -at the start emits black smoke - a lot -after 10s the smoke no longer exists -he has a beating. I suspect that beating is also the cause of the hard start, the possible causes for the beating (according to me) can be: -a broken rocker arm -a blocked dowel - on hydraulic dowel engines it happens that one dowel from the dirty oil is blocked -a bent valve, pinched or both -piston spart More precisely, I find out after I start the engine - in summer when it's hot ... Now he also found an error on the EDG -B50 shorted to ground. When I change the engine I will also take care of the B50. Quote
Willys Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 What is the problem with mileages and such? Are you wanting to sell it after you fixed it and the higher mileage hurts the sale? The SAM swap will instantly take the higher mileage number and you can program the old vin into the SAM from the other car....I did it a few years ago, so i have forgotten how i did it but it is possible. Quote
tyc Posted February 6, 2022 Author Posted February 6, 2022 I don't want to sell it. I recently bought it to have a car to commute to work. I want it to be the mileage that was .... I mean it should be the real one with which I bought it (+ how much I brought home ~ 15km). I know there is a possibility but I don't know it and that's why I opened another topic - However, it is not a reconditioning. Quote
