Diesel01
06 Diesel, 450. Took it out on Sunday noon, ran just fine. Wanted to go for a drive Sunday evening, nothing. Ignition turns on, key symbol flashes nonstop, not just 9 times. Put new battery in the key, but nothing. Also does not lock or unlock doors. Does this mean I have to take it to Mercedes and get the key reprogrammed, or is there a reasonably priced OBD2 reader that I can buy and program the key myself. Thanks for any help on this topic
LooseLugNuts
i had success reprograming a key with a delphi 150e snooper box but it was a real pain in the derriere to get the software working right (it was hacked software that needed to be installed a certain way and then generate keys to activate it) long story short i suggest either towing it to a dealer or advertising locally on fakebook marketplace/kijiji to find someone with a mercedes star machine

Mjolinor
The newer version of Delphi come with a file to copy over, not a key generator. Much easier and at less than £40 they should be a must have for all Smart owners IMO.

LooseLugNuts
i remember buying mine specifically to clear an airbag light....paid for itself the first time i used it (would not pass safety until that trouble code was erased ...it was produced by turning the key on with the seats removed during a repair) finding out it did keys was a bonus but i remember it took several tries t get the procedure just right it reads and resets abs codes too but for some odd reason it worked perfect on my 05 coupe abs but would not communicate at all with the abs on my 05 cabrio if its as easy as copying over a file now id also recommend it ...they used to be just under $50 canadian on aliexpress
Diesel01
Nice bonus that it does keys as well. I found a guy who does keys for 20.- and another 30.- for coming out to my place to do it. He will be here on Thursday evening. That would save me from putting my smart on a trailer and taking it to him. Lets see if he can do the Smart keys too. Mjolinor
There are two basic versions. The single board (PCB) and the dual board. The single boards are better. If you need it for a BMW then the single boards is a must. The reason is that they are cheap copies and most of the cheap ones do not use proper line driver chips for the CANBUS, this can lead to communication problems and certainly will do on BMW cars. They use a cheap resistor but on the single board models the board is made for the line driver and with a bit of soldering they can be replaced with the correct driver chip if needed. Diesel01
Sounds like you know what you are talking about. To much for me. I am a nuts and bolts guy. I will leave the electronics for someone else to figure out, but thanks anyway
LooseLugNuts
i would bet against the key guy ....unless he has some fancy new immobiliser tool...the smart car keys are fairly unique i remember back when i bought my delphi there was some with cheap chips and some with good chips...when i opened mine it had the good chips
Willys
Let us know how you made out....from what I have heard and seen, the only way to reprogram key fobs is using a Star Machine.....and that price is dirt cheap considering the Star machine can cost hundreds up to over $1000, so it's one way to help pay for the machine. etc.....IF you can get it done for that money get a few done and put them aside for when they go bad. Good luck.
