MoJo
Looking for a part can anyone point me in the right direction? Mercedes Benz says I need part 240 and they said, any numer greyed out isn't for my car. 240 will work but 245 is the bare bones of 240 (see second pic) While debating this with the M.B. guy I notice this... compared part 220 with th3 third pic. When I asked if he could order part 245 he tells me there are 5 different types of that part so he couldn't. I've been to many sites and can find this part in the USA but they don't deliver internationally. MB Canada wants $300+ for this part USA $107+ exchange (approx. $150) Can anyone point me in the right direction at a decent price?
Willys
Hmmmm....? Looks to me like you need it all, no? I'd be searching the wrecking yards asap....also contact Glenn SMART142 as he may have something? Not sure if he dabbles in the other model years or not? I would also be asking a different dealership parts guy or maybe a body shop to get the correct part numbers etc.... Your VIN # should be all that is required to find these parts....all dealerships demand it before they even speak with you I have found... Not sure you would qualify for an exchange...lol, every piece looks broken in one way or another, no? Wrecking yards would be my first stop. OR even all the buy and sell sites.....you never know? People part out car everywhere now a days!
LooseLugNuts
kenny upull has fairly accurate car inventory listed online... also this site works well for seeing what other yards have available >> https://www.car-part.com/
MoJo
@Willys Not all of it, the shutters controller and the shutters are OK but they want to sell me the whole part. The part on the bottom pic is beat up a little but functional. I provided my vin# to MB and he gave me this diagram and told me only the parts available for my model were the ones unshaded which baffled me cause I pulled a part off my car that was shaded (part 220). I've called MANY auto wreckers/recyclers, seems like no one has 2016 smart cars. @LooseLugNuts I've checked Kenny upull a while back and they STILL don't have anything newer than a 2013. I did look up on the car parts site and found a 2016, but it's a 3 hour drive. Not dure if he's selling it or parting it out. Might be taking g a road trip. Anyhow I hit a racoon and thought the damage was purely cosmetic. The first pic is what I thought the damage was, the second pic is the underlying damage. Willys
IF you want to learn and mess around.....plastic welding isn't that difficult but you must find similar materials when filling broken or missing spots. I rebuilt my belly pans and broken inner fenders using this method over buying new old stock etc. All you need is the same materials, a prpane torch and a flat scrapper or knife to heat and smooth out the melting plastics. It is easy once you figure it out.
MoJo
My white bumper was in a few pieces and the black part was missing some pieces that broke off. Can't weld pieces that aren't there. On the other hand the honeycomb plastic grill could stand it if I can't get it to pop back into place.

It's what I had to do to fill large missing holes in my belly pan.....same material cut, heated then shaped then once fitting in place welded or melted together. IF you need it badly enough you find ways to get it done without bending at the stealership parts desk...imho. IF it was stretched then snapped the material may be too long or miss shapen and may require cutting to relieve the tension etc before you can easily mate or get the part in the correct shape or position to weld it. MoJo
I called many scrap yards, not many 2016s or newer models that have the part. But I found that my niece's B-friend company makes regular runs it the states. Over $300 plus tax = $350ish Canadian... USA over $100 exchange rate $150ish plus tax = $180 Canadian.
